SPIDER-MAN FRANCHISE: Drew Goddard Thinks A ‘Godzilla’ Sized ‘Sandman’ In SINISTER SIX Could Top DOCTOR STRANGE

In a email with the subject line “[Deadline.com] Marvel Starts Doctor Strange Search: Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch Early Wish Listers” from back in June, Drew Goddard pens an email to Amy Pascal in which he appears to talk about writing up a note to Tom Hardy about why he should choose Sinister Six over Doctor Strange (he would of course end up picking DC Comics adaptation Suicide Squad over both). Here the ridiculous sounding email from Goddard it is in its entirety:

I’m gonna write him up a note this weekend. But, off the top of my head, some possible talking points are:

– We’re doing something different – it’s time to celebrate the bad guys for once.
-We’re inspired by the classic team/mission of movies: Dirty Dozen, Magnificent Seven, Guns of Navarone. We want that spirit, that SWAGGER.
– If the Spider-Man franchiseis the Beatles, then we’re the Sex Pistols.
-Flint Marco is gonna steal the show.
-The character is pure id – the anarchic enthusiast of the team. A chance to have FUN while celebrating being bad.
-Tom embodies that anarchy, that triumphant nihilism – we’ve seen him tap into that spirit before in roles like Bronson, but now we have the chance to crank the volume up to ELEVEN.
-He’s gonna storm through London at the end like God-f***ing-zilla. That is not purple prose. He’sgoing to be AS TALL AS A SKYSCRAPER in the third act of the movie. What does Dr. Strange have? Magic tricks? [frick] you, magic tricks – we’ve got a skyscraper Tom Hardy knocking down buildings!!!!

Wow. I’m not sure about you guys, but I am extremely relieved that this idiot had to step down as Daredevil’s showrunner. You can appreciate that he’s just trying to come up with ways of selling Sinister Six and the role of Sandman to Tom Hardy, but is recycling one of THE worst parts of Spider-Man 3 really the best way to do that? Goddard clearly thinks so, and if this is the best he can come up with for the final act, who knows how bad the rest was! Thankfully someone at Sony seemingly saw sense as there was no mention of this movie at Comic-Con (one email revealed plans for Goddard to announce it at the event) and it appears to have stalled since. If Marvel Studios do end up making a deal with Sony, here’s hoping Goddard isn’t part of it.

THE INTERVIEW: YouTube, Sony in Tentative Deal to Stream ‘The Interview’

Reports are coming that Sony Pictures Entertainment has struck a tentative deal to stream “The Interview” on Google’s YouTube starting on Christmas Day, the same day it will have a limited theatrical release, according to CNN.

Under the preliminary pact, fans of the controversial movie — a spoof that prompted a major cyber-attack by North Korea against the studio, according to U.S. officials — could pay a rental fee on YouTube to watch it on the world’s biggest Internet-video platform, per the report. Pricing info is not available.

In addition, “The Interview,” which stars Seth Rogen and James Franco as two bumbling American TV journalists tasked with assassinating North Korea’s Kim Jong-un, will be available for rental at Google Play on on a Sony-owned website, Re/code reported. Sony is expected to sign additional digital distributors.

Sony last week pulled plans for “The Interview” Dec. 25 theatrical bow after hackers threatened moviegoers with 9/11-style violence — and major chains said they wouldn’t screen the film. But on Tuesday, Sony did an about-face, announcing that the film will now play in more than 300 independent cinemas across the U.S.

The developments with Google and YouTube to make “The Interview” available come after Sony Pictures chief Michael Lynton said in a CNN interview last Friday that no video-on-demand providers were willing to release the movie. That apparently has changed after a groundswell of support in the U.S. for releasing “The Interview” — with President Obama praising Sony for reversing course and deciding to authorize screenings on Christmas Day.

THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E: Henry Cavill And Armie Hammer In Another New THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E. Still

We’ve seen Henry Cavill (Man of Steel) and Armie Hammer (The Lone Ranger looking rather suave in Guy Ritchie’s The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,(ABOVE) but the latest sees the two spies armed and ready for action as they team up to stop a mysterious international criminal organization

Henry Cavill (“Man of Steel”) stars as Napoleon Solo opposite Armie Hammer (“The Social Network”) as Illya Kuryakin in director Guy Ritchie’s action adventure “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.,” a fresh take on the hugely popular 1960s television series. Set against the backdrop of the early 1960s, at the height of the Cold War, “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” centers on CIA agent Solo and KGB agent Kuryakin.  Forced to put aside longstanding hostilities, the two team up on a joint mission to stop a mysterious international criminal organization, which is bent on destabilizing the fragile balance of power through the proliferation of nuclear weapons and technology.  The duo’s only lead is the daughter of a vanished German scientist, who is the key to infiltrating the criminal organization, and they must race against time to find him and prevent a worldwide catastrophe.

Directed by Guy Ritchie and starring Henry Cavill, Armie Hammie,Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Debicki, and Jared Harris, The Man From U.N.C.L.E. will be released on August 14th, 2015

THE SIX BILLION DOLLAR MAN: Mark Wahlberg Says SIX BILLION DOLLAR MAN Is A "Superhero" Movie

Last month, is was reported that Wahlberg would team up with his Lone Survivor director Peter Berg (“Hancock”) for a film adaptation of the 1970s television series The Six Million Dollar Man, aka The Bionic Man, which starred Lee Majors (“The Fall Guy”).
While promoting his new movie The Gambler, Mark Wahlberg chatted with the entertainment website, Collider, about his upcoming film project The Six Billion Dollar Man. Though, he won’t get to it until he has finished Deep Water Horizon.

Wahlberg briefly spoke of the project with Collider:

Any plans for you to be a superhero in the future?
WAHLBERG:  We’re talking about doing Six Billion Dollar Man, which is very much a superhero, but I don’t have to wear any kind of spandex cape.  So that would be cool.  Howard Gordon is writing the script and people are talking about doing it, but we got a great, great idea and it’s something that’s been in the pipeline for quite some time, so hopefully if we get the script right maybe we’ll make it after we do the Deep Water Horizon.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON: Mark Ruffallo Talks AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON; Reveals Banner’s Role In Creating ‘Ultron’

Mark Ruffalo talks here about Bruce Banner’s role in creating Ultron alongside Tony Stark, why his character is struggling to transform back from the Hulk in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and the “goofy stuff” Joss Whedon will bring to the darker looking sequel.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is still shrouded in secrecy, but Mark Ruffalo offered up at least a few new details in a recent interview with Total Film Magazine. For a start, it appears as if Iron Man won’t be the only one kicking himself for creation the sequel’s titular villain! “Banner’s been living in Stark Tower. They’ve been working side by side and Bruce has his own lab now. He’s doing work that augments Tony’s own, which could lead to an experiment going wrong…” Could this be part of the reason why we saw that battle between Hulk and the Hulkbuster in the trailer? We’ll have to wait and see, but Bruce will be getting a lot closer to at least one of his fellow Avengers! “His relationship with Natasha deepens. There’s something similar about the two of them. I see them as lost souls. They’re kindred in some ways.” Sounds good, but what’s in store for the Hulk?

“He does feel more comfortable with himself,” the actor reveals. “His confidence is getting better. But, you know, that gets shaken. His ability to handle the Hulk really gets thrown into question in this film. The hard part is coming back. Hulk doesn’t want to cede his place. It’s much harder to come back from being Hulk than it is to get into him.” That should be an interesting dynamic to see, and something which has been largely unexplored in previous movies featuring the Green Goliath. “I think there’s a whole other chapter we haven’t seen yet where you find the other nuances within him. The battle of identity going on between him and Banner is all about establishing dominance. The only thing that Hulk is really afraid of is Banner. That’s an interesting dynamic.” Oh, and for those of you worrying that Avengers: Age of Ultron will be too dark, Ruffalo promises: “What Joss is going after is really big. But there’s still lots of laughs. There’s some goofy stuff. I mean, it’s Whedon!” What do you guys think about these latest details?

THE INTERVIEW: Sony To Release This Christmas In Select Theaters And VOD!!!

After Sony Pictures made the decision last week to pull Seth Rogen & Evan Goldberg’s latest comedy The Interview from its forthcoming Christmas Day release in theaters, they’ve decided to send the film out after all. The Wrap reports that Sony is distributing the film in participating theaters as well as VOD on Christmas Day, despite the threats dished out by Guardians of Peace. This comes just after the Art House Convergence, a national coalition of independent movie theaters, petitioned to ask Sony to let them release The Interview for America to see. We’re just glad the film is getting released.

Specific details on participating theaters haven’t been revealed yet, but here’s a couple tweets:

That’s The Plaza Atlanta and Alamo Drafthouse theaters confirmed to have The Interview on Christmas Day, and we’re betting there’s some more coming soon. As for the VOD release, the streaming service that will be carrying the movie has yet to be revealed, but we’re expecting some kind of official press release from Sony later today. We just hope that whoever handles the VOD release can handle the inevitably high traffic that will be coming for the movie after all this controversy turned even more heads than it otherwise would have.

Sony has released a statement from CEO Michael Lynton confirming the release saying:

“We have never given up on releasing The Interview and we’re excited our movie will be in a number of theaters on Christmas Day. At the same time, we are continuing our efforts to secure more platforms and more theaters so that this movie reaches the largest possible audience.
While we hope this is only the first step of the film’s release, we are proud to make it available to the public and to have stood up to those who attempted to suppress free speech.”

We’re still waiting for a list of theaters and plans for the VOD release, so keep checking back for more.

ANT-MAN: Trailer Has Been Classified, Should Be Released Soon

The first trailer for Ant-Man has been classified by the Alberta Film Classification board.

A trailer is usually released shortly after it is classified. It’s unclear what film the trailer would run in front of, however. The only Disney release in close proximity is Into the Woods, opening on Christmas Day, which may be too close to have the trailer ready for. However, it’s not unheard of for a studio to advertise a major film in front of another studio’s release, so perhaps it will appear in front of an unexpected film in January.

The trailer’s runtime is 1 minute and 48 seconds, so it will be more than a simple tease, and the trailer (not the film itself) is rated PG, so it will likely run in front of a film with a similar or lesser rating. The trailer will likely be release online shortly after it’s theatrical debut, if not before that.

Ant-Man opens July 17, 2015, and also stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, Tip “Ti” Harris, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, Jordi Mollà, and Michael Peña.

Ant-Man wraps up Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on July 17, 2015, preceded by Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015. Captain America: Civil War starts Phase 3 on May 6, 2016, followed by Doctor Strange on November 4, 2016, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 on May 5, 2017, Thor: Ragnarok on July 28, 2017, Black Panther on November 3, 2017, Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 on May 4, 2018, Captain Marvel on July 6, 2018, Inhumans on November 2, 2018 and Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 on May 3, 2019.

UPDATE: THE FLASH: Season 2 Renewal?

UPDATE: It looks like someone may have spoken a little too soon as SpoilerTV has redacted their previous announcement and has revealed that the show has not officially been renewed for a second season. This, of course, doesn’t mean that the show won’t be renewed, it just means that the CW is hoping to announce it at a later date. Stay tuned for more.
It looks like The Flash may have won another race, this time for early renewal. It is being reported that the CW’s hit show, which stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, has been renewed for a second season, so it looks like we can expect more high speed adventures for the foreseeable future!
In a bit of news that was more inevitable than not, SpoilerTV is reporting that the CW’s smash hit, The Flash, has been renewed for a second season. While we’re still waiting on official confirmation from the CW, news of the critically acclaimed show’s renewal was expected by many as The Flash, which stars Grant Gustin as the Scarlet Speedster, is currently the CW’s highest rated show with an average of 1.53 in the 18-49 demo and an average of 4 million viewers per week. For comparison’s sake, its sister show Arrow averages a 1.01 with an average of 2.79 million weekly viewers. So it would make sense to renew it if  it gets such a high view count!
