Luke Evans Officially Departs The Crow Remake

Last month, word first broke that actor Luke Evans may exit the upcoming remake of The Crow and now TheWrap is reporting that Evans has officially departed the project. Relativity Studios is currently on the hunt for another star for the film, which has already had one director drop out in the midst of production.

Music video helmer Corin Hardy (The Hallow) is still attached to direct The Crow, which features a script by Cliff Dorfman. Series creator James O’Barr will also work as a creative consultant on the film. No release date is currently set though production has previously been reported to begin later this year.

“The Crow” was originally published as a four issue series in 1989 and was adapted into a film in 1994 by Alex Proyas with Brandon Lee in the title role. Countless other sequels to both the comic and film have been produced in the years following.

‘The Crow’ Remake Aiming for Spring 2015 Production Start

Producer Ed Pressman (Wall Street, American Psycho) has revealed that The Crow remake’s long and bumpy road could finally be reaching an end, with production targeted to start next year.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter on the Abu Dhabi Film Festival’s opening night, Pressman — who was also behind the 1994 original — said that he hoped production on the reboot of the cult horror would begin “in the spring.”

Pressman, who was in Abu Dhabi to attend the International Showbiz Expo and also to collect a lifetime achievement award from the festival, described The Crow as “the anti-Spider-Man.”

“It still has a big fan base even though it was so long ago,” he said. “But the generation today doesn’t even know The Crow.”

A string of actors have been linked to play the iconic role made famous by the late Brandon Lee — who died in the making of the first film — with Dracula Untold’s Lee Evans the current favorite. Evans added further fuel to the fire earlier this year when he spoke about the film at the BAFTAs, telling Red Carpet TV about pre-production and saying that the remake would be “bringing to the screen a lot of parts of the story that were never really told.”

However, Pressman said that nothing regarding casting was confirmed at this stage.
