DOCTOR STRANGE Will Shoot November; Could Be British Or American

During press events for Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Marvel President Kevin Feige revealed that Doctor Strange will begin filming this November.

At an event for bloggers, Feige confirmed Doctor Strange, which will be directed by Scott Derrickson (Sinister) and star Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) in the title role, will start filming in November.
When asked about Doctor Strange, Feige said he was “excited” about Cumberbatch as Strange. He also stressed that his focus is always to make sure that all MCU films are strong on their own and the same will go for Doctor Strange.
Strange is being played by one of the most recognizable actors on the planet in the form of Benedict Cumberbatch — but also an actor whose voice is immediately identifiable. So…what happens when you have a traditionally-American character and then a famous English actor with a famously English voice taking on the part? Well, Marvel hasn’t decided quite yet. In an interview with MTV, studio head Kevin Feige admitted as much.
“It’s a good question,” he admitted. “We have not discussed the accent with him yet but he’s Benedict Cumberbatch so I think he can do anything we ask him.”

SHERLOCK Special Episode Will Take Place In The Victorian Era

Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have been playing very modern versions of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson in “Sherlock,” but a special upcoming 90-minute episode will take them back in time to the Victorian era of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s original stories.

Entertainment Weekly talked to “Sherlock” co-creator Steven Moffat before a SXSW conference, noting that fans had seen the show’s two stars dressed in 19th century clothes during recent filming. Were the characters dressing up for a party, a dream sequence, or some other reason yet to be explained?

“The special is it’s own thing,” Steven told EW. “We wouldn’t have done the story we’re doing, and the way we’re doing it, if we didn’t have this special. It’s not part of the run of three episodes. So we had this to do it – as we could hardly conceal – it’s Victorian.” He said the standalone episode is its own little “bubble” and it’s basically completed.

That episode is expected to debut around Christmas 2015, before the launch of Season 4’s three new episodes.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange IS He American Or British?

Benedict Cumberbatch was asked during the Red Carpet event for the Oscars if his Sorcerer Supreme will be using his own English accent or an American one.

So, Benedict Cumberbatch evaded answering that pretty well! It’s an interesting question though. Doctor Strange is obviously American in the comic books, but he’s the kind of character you can imagine an English accent suiting well. Sadly, it will likely be a long time until we find out either way!

New Images from the Sherlock Christmas Special

Although “Sherlock” won’t be back for a full season this year, we are getting the return of Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman’s Holmes and Watson with a “Sherlock” Christmas special. The event was teased last Thanksgiving with a first still, showing off the series’ stars in mysteriously anachronistic garb. Today, the mystery intensifies with new set photos coming in from London. Now, it seems, it’s not just Holmes and Watson that are out of time! Check out the new shots in the gallery viewer below.

“Sherlock” began airing in 2010, establishing a pattern of three 90-minute episodes per series. The most recent episode, “His Last Vow,” concluded series three with a bit of a cliffhanger, teasing the return of Andrew Scott’s Jim Moriarty.

Currently known only as “Sherlock Special,” the upcoming episode is written by series creators Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat and is expected to air this December.

“Steven and Mark have had a great idea what they can do next,” teased Freeman in conversation with The Mirror earlier this year, “and it is an exciting, mouth watering idea… “

A fourth series of the hit show is also expected to go into production this year (to then air in 2016), although specific plans have not yet been revealed.

Marvel Courting Chiwetel Ejiofor for Leading Role in ‘Doctor Strange’

Oscar nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor could join his first comic book movie.

The actor is being courted by Marvel to take on an unspecified role in the company’s Doctor Strange, The Hollywood Reporter has learned, and could join Benedict Cumberbatch, who is starring as the surgeon turned sorcerer supreme Stephen Strange, aka Doctor Strange.

Talks are said to be in the early stages, and Marvel had no comment.

Character and plot details are being kept hidden from the all-seeing Eye of Agamotto.

Several sources have intoned that Ejiofor is wanted for a villainous role, but some insiders have pooh-poohed that. The villain is likely to be classic bad guy Baron Mordo, a sorcerer’s pupil whose next-in-line status is usurped by Strange, thus making him the physician’s mortal enemy.

If Marvel feels like mixing up ethnicities, a possible role could be that of Wong, the monk servant to Strange who is adept in martial arts. Another possibility is the role of the Ancient One, a semi-immortal mystic who mentors Strange and is the sorcerer supreme of this dimension.

Scott Derrickson is directing the movie, which is in the early stages of casting and will shoot after Captain America: Civil War, according to sources. Strange has a release date of Nov. 4, 2016.
Ejiofor was reportedly due to play a villain in the new James Bond movie, Spectre, but talks never reached the dealmaking phase.

Ejiofor, who was nominated for a best actor Oscar for his performance in 12 Years a Slave, already has notched a number of villainous roles on this thespian sash, notably in Joss Whedon’s Serenity and Children of Men. He is currently shooting The Martian for Ridley Scott and stars in Z for Zachariah, which will premiere later this month at the Sundance Film Festival.

DOCTOR STRANGE: Scott Derrickson Teases Dr. Strange

More Dr. Strange Teasing has come from Director Scott Derrickson this evening it seems. Of Course this isn’t from the film or anything just yet but it does tease the lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular role and is also some pretty cool artwork!

Benedict Cumberbatch Is Doctor Strange

Well folks after months of both rumours and speculations, Marvel Studios have announced that “Sherlock” star Benedict Cumberbatch will take on the role of Dr. Strange.
The movie is to be directed by Scott Derrikson and will release November 4 2016 and October 28 2016 for UK and Ireland fans only.
The story will follow the story of neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a horrific accident, discovers the hidden world of magic and alternate dimensions.
So yeah Marvel Studios are making brilliant casting decisions and this just proves that, with the addition of Benedict Cumberbatch and Chadwick Boseman the MCU is a juggernaut for fantastic actors.
Sound off below your opinions on this awesome casting choice.

Sherlock Special News!!

The boys are back! And they’ve dressed up for the occasion too. Yes, while we’ll all have to be frighteningly patient for the return of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson in the next special and series of Sherlock, the Beeb have taken pity on the Cumber Collective and the Free…masons? By releasing a new pic of the leads in costume. And how about those costumes? Either Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman will be going back in time for the new special, or there are some period garb adventures afoot. What larks! So far, that’s about all we know of the new one-off special, written by series co-creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, aside from the BBC also tweeting a picture of the special’s read-through script, which clearly belongs to Gatiss, so if anything else leaks, we know who will be getting a visit from the security squad. Still, he does play Mycroft, so if anyone knows about keeping things quiet…

So now of course, we start to wonder what will happen to our favourite detectives. Gatiss (him again) gave an interview in which he said to “expect tragedy”, but beyond that it’s anyone’s guess. Will they really follow Conan Doyle’s lead and see Watson become a widower?

Sherlock is set to return around Christmas. But Christmas 2015, which means it’s still more than a year away and hasn’t even officially begun shooting yet. Plus they have only started to read the script now:

A Huge Tragedy In Sherlock Season 4

Fans still have a while to wait before the return of “Sherlock” — with a special episode slated to begin filming in January and season four expected to shoot later in the year — but that hasn’t hindered the rampant speculation about what we might see when Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman finally reunite on the small screen.
In a recent interview with Britain’s Radio Times, “Sherlock” co-creator (and the actor behind the detective’s enigmatic brother Mycroft) Mark Gatiss teased, “you can always expect tragedy as well as adventure” when the critically acclaimed show returns.
Could that relate to John Watson’s new bride, Mary (Amanda Abbington), the former assassin who lured John away from 221b Baker Street in season three? As Freeman pointed out in a June interview with the UK’s Telegraph, “While we play fast and loose with the original stories, we generally follow the trajectory of what Conan Doyle did. So [Watson] gets married, and then Mary dies — so at some point presumably she’ll die.”
Still, Gatiss cautioned viewers to remember, “Just because it’s in the stories doesn’t mean it’ll happen in the series because there’s an awful lot of changes and an awful lot of places to go and things to do.” He added, “It should be clear by now that while, of course, Doyle is our absolute god, we have gone quite a long way away as well… so there are lots of surprises to come.”
But before season four hits our screens, the standalone special has to deal with the chilling cliffhanger that ended the last run of episodes: the apparent return of Jim Moriarty (Andrew Scott), who took over Britain’s TV sets with an ominous looping message of “Did you miss me?” — despite having committed suicide right in front of Sherlock in season two.
Gatiss told the Radio Times that the upcoming special will “completely” solve the mystery of Moriarty’s supposed reappearance, leaving the way clear for a new arc in season four. However, Gatiss declined to confirm or deny whether we’ll ever see the iconic villain again after the special, coyly offering, “Well, it’s very hard to put a lid on Andrew Scott…”

RUMOUR: Benedict Cumberbatch Is To Be Doctor Strange

NOTE THAT THE FOLLOWING IS ALL CONJECTURE AND SPECULATION
According to Deadline, Cumberbatch would play Stephen Vincent Strange, a former neurosurgeon who becomes the next Sorcerer Supreme and primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats. Marvel Comics vets Stan Lee and Steve Ditko co-created the character in 1963.
Marvel has teased Strange in several films, including “Thor” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” The character fits in with the cinematic universe Marvel is building, with Strange having paired up with Thor and the Avengers, along with Spider-Man, the X-Men and the Fantastic Four to battle enemies in its comicbooks.
Marvel has long wanted to launch a film franchise around the character and eventually integrate him in one of its “Avengers” sequels.
Still Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has long wanted the Doctor Strange character to star in his own solo film as a way to make a movie about magic the way “Guardians of the Galaxy” pushes it into the sci-fi and space genre and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” into political thrillers.
Marvel had been in negotiations with Joaquin Phoenix to take the role, but couldn’t reach a deal because of the number of films the thesp would have to agree to make.
Cumberbatch’s deal is contingent upon his schedule, which includes the “Sherlock Holmes” series for BBC.
He will next be seen in “The Imitation Game” and voices characters in “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies,” “The Penguins of Madagascar” and WB’s “The Jungle Book.”
Marvel has not commented on the deal.
