Welcome your faces to the first edition of DC Delights where I talk about all things DC movie news. This edition I talk Suicide Squad, Batman V Superman, Batfleck in Suicide Squad and MORE!
Variety has learned that Alex Meraz has joined the cast of Warner Bros. and DC’s “Suicide Squad.” Pic is currently in production in Toronto and stars Will Smith, Margot Robbie and Jared Leto. David Ayer is directing the pic. Meraz’s role is unknown. Besides “Twilight,” Meraz’s roles include appearing opposite Jamie Dornan in the British miniseries “New Worlds.”
There’s been quite a bit of Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice concept art finding its way online recently, and the latest piece comes courtesy of former Latino Review scooper El Mayimbe. It’s been confirmed that the craft we see opening fire (a trigger happy Batman?) in the teaser is indeed the Batwing, and this new artwork gives us a much better look at the design. It’s certainly… different anyway!

Will Smith has been snapped on the set of Suicide Squad, thanks to Just Jared, and the costume he’s wearing has already created quite a stir on social media. It’s worth noting though that Deadshot appears to have both eyes here, so this could be a flashback to a time before he was a killer. The presence of a young girl seems to indicate that anyway, and it looks like they’re shopping together. Either way, the Gotham City police car confirms where these scenes are set, so that too raises some interesting questions about the movie. For example, could it be that this will be an origin story for the character?
Regardless, this look for Deadshot isn’t too much of a departure from Batman mythos as it’s clearly influenced by animated movie, Batman: Gotham Knight. Of course, we don’t know if he’s wearing this outfit for a single scene, will don a variation of it later in the movie, or might have something altogether different as part of the “skwad”.
Just Jared spotted Jared Leto keeping his bright green hair hidden under a hat while stepping out on Wednesday afternoon (April 29) in the SoHo neighborhood of New York City.
The 43-year-old actor was spotted with a female friend and later was joined by a different female pal.
It seems the success of the latest Fast & Furious movie has put directer James Wan at the top of quite a few lists. Deadline report that he’s the man Sony want to kick-start their new Robotech franchise, and reckon he is in early talks to do just that. The site also acknowledges that Wan has a lot of offers on the table, but hear that “he and Sony are going to try and make this work.”
As we knew already, one of those offers was Warner Bros’ solo Aquaman movie, and The Wrap’s Jeff Sneider is hearing that Wan has agreed to helm it after his next project, The Conjuring 2. If that’s the case, it’ll obviously be a while before cameras roll on Robotech, so it’s entirely possible something will have to give here.
If you want Batman to show up in Suicide Squad, well you are in luck as eTalk have snapped some BTS shots that show Ben Affleck’s Batman and some Gotham police cars! SO clearly he will show!
These images were posted on the Blu-ray forums, and as you can see they provide our most detailed look yet at the armoured Bat-suit that was glimpsed in the recent trailer. Rumor has it that the Dark Knight (Ben Affleck) will be sporting a third suit of some kind to aid him in his battle against the Man Of Steel (Henry Cavill), but we haven’t seen any evidence of that…yet!
THR has posted a report on the state of Warner Bros.’ budding DC cinematic universe, and by the sounds of things they might be in a bit of trouble. The main problem seems to be the lack of any one person steering the ship and making sure everything is being set up to gel together. The closest thing they have to this type of figure is probably Zack Snyder, but while the director is said to be broadly overseeing the journey towards Justice League, he’s a little busy with Batman V Superman to give much else his full attention. Because of this WB has apparently adopted more of a “filmmaker-driven approach”, with David Ayer, for example, being given full creative control over Suicide Squad.
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Although Marvel’s output syncs up very well as a shared universe, their movies have also been criticised for seeming a bit generic, or “samey”. WB’s approach is definitely a riskier one, but it may ultimately yield better individual films.
Even if that’s the case though, it doesn’t sound like anyone THR spoke to about this believes it’s a smart move. We already knew the studio had hired multiple writers to work on competing scripts for Wonder Woman, and it looks like they’ve followed suit with Aquaman. Apparently Will Beall, Jeff Nichols and Kurt Johnstad are all penning separate takes on the King of Atlantis. This approach was described as “throwing shit against the wall to see what stuck” by one insider.
GETTING INTO RUMOUR TERRITORY
The reaction to the first official image of Jared Leto as The Joker was divisive to say the least. The drastically different look which included metallic teeth and tattoos upset some fans, with many convincing themselves that the tattoos all over his body were there just to celebrate the character’s 75th anniversary. That’s a pretty stupid theory, right? Well, perhaps not according to JoBlo.com.
The site’s source apparently tells them that “the Joker image everybody is talking about isn’t a genuine image and doesn’t match up with how he looks on set.” Hang on a second though, the image was Tweeted out by DC Comics, Suicide Squad director David Ayer, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder, and a number of others, so it’s hardly a fake! What it may have been though is an attempt to trick fans as “He’s missing scars (which we reported on a while back as mementos from his history with Batman) and the grill/teeth are a kind of WTF addition to the image. Our source elaborates that he’s scarred on his back and arms and his skin is definitely whiter than what we see below. The tattoos are brand new if even real, and may have been added to cover up the areas where his scars will be.” Nope, I’m not buying that for a second!
Warner Bros. must have known the level of coverage that the first image of The Joker in the DC Cinematic Universe would receive, and I don’t buy them putting out one with a bunch of fake additions like the teeth and tattoos.
Man of Steel didn’t really tease a shared DC Cinematic Universe, but Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad look set to change that in a major way. Latino-Review have dropped some very interesting details about the ties between those two movies today, and it turns out that Jared Leto will be shooting scenes for both while in Toronto. They reveal that it will be a flashback scene which depicts The Joker beating Jason Todd, a.k.a. Robin, to death (presumably with a crowbar).
That will explain why he’s behind bars and may even tie in with those rumours we heard a long time ago about Batman giving up crime fighting until Superman enters the scene. Robin’s costume will be on display in the Batcave, and the site theorises that that could be what triggers the flashback. They also reveal that Bruce Wayne/Batman will be making an appearance in Suicide Squad, with the Batmobile reportedly on site in Toronto too.
Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will be in theaters on March 25th, 2016; Suicide Squad on August 5th, 2016; Wonder Woman – June 23rd, 2017; Justice League – November 17th, 2017; The Flash – March 23rd, 2018; Aquaman – July 27th, 2018; Shazam – April 5th, 2019; Justice League 2 – June 14th, 2019; Cyborg – April 3rd, 2020; Green Lantern – June 19th, 2020.
