Chadwick Boseman Talks BLACK PANTHER And Those Ernie Hudson/’T’Chaka’ Rumors

Talking at the world premiere of Avengers: Age of Ultron last night, Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman talks about the preparation he’s going through to transform into the King of Wakanda and addresses those Ernie Hudson rumours.

Marvel has trained Chadwick Boseman well as the actor was unwilling to even reveal whether or not he’s read the Captain America: Civil War script in an interview with MTV News last night (Scarlett Johansson was a little more forthcoming recently as you can see by clicking here). He did however tell the site that he’s exploring all sorts of aspects of “history and science” to get his take on Black Panther right both in that movie and his planned solo outing which has now been delayed until 2018. The actor also addresses those rumours about Ernie Hudson playing his father T’Chaka, so be sure to check out the view above for the interview in full.

RUMOUR: Ernie Hudson Up For King T’Chaka In BLACK PANTHER

Actor Ernie Hudson may be a contender for the role of King T’Chaka in Marvel’s upcoming “Black Panther” film. A report from Latino-Review’s Umberto Gonzales has the “Ghostbusters” alum researching the character in anticipation of possibly playing the father of the classic Marvel hero.

In the comics, King T’Chaka of Wakanda is the father of T’Challa, who goes on to become the Black Panther after him. Like his ancestors, T’Chaka kept Wakanda hidden from the world in order to protect the African nations’ cache of Vibranium. T’Chaka dies from the machinations of Ulysses Klaw, who discovers and covets Wakanda’s Vibranium store; his death pushes T’Challa to take on the legacy of his fathers to become the Black Panther.

Klaw, played by Andy Serkis, will appear in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” this May.

“Black Panther” is scheduled for a November 3, 2017 release.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be in theaters May 1, 2015; Ant-Man on July 17, 2015; Captain America: Civil War – May 6, 2016; Doctor Strange – November 4, 2016; Guardians of the Galaxy 2 – May 5, 2017; Spider-Man reboot – July 28, 2017; Thor: Ragnarok – November 3, 2017; The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 – May 4, 2018; Black Panther – July 6, 2018; Captain Marvel – November 2, 2018; The Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 – May 3, 2019; Inhumans – July 12, 2019.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Casting Call Hints At Wakanda Setting

Source: CBM @MarvelFreshman

With filming set to begin in the coming weeks, Captain America: Civil War is currently seeking background extras in Atlanta, Georgia, where the bulk of principal photography will take place before moving to several other locations. Following reports that the highly-anticipated Marvel sequel needed Southeast Asian men and women, Tammy Smith Casting now reports that Civil War is looking for “Upscale men and woman” (Men in dark suits and women in dark pants/skirt suits and/or dark conservative dresses ), “Military Men” (with real experience as Military or Weapons/ tactical training), “African men and women” (Nigerian, Ethiopian, Kenyan, etc in casual clothes or ethnic wardrobe), and lastly “College Students” (Ivy League College appropriate attire required).

This is all likely in reference to T’Challa the Black Panther, who will be played by Chadwick Boseman in Captain America: Civil War (before the 2018 solo movie). It implies that the African prince’s nation of Wakanda will be a major setting in the 2016 movie, even though it’s heavily rumored to debut in Avengers: Age of Ultron this summer.

Directed by Joe & Anthony Russo, Captain America: Civil War stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Chadwick Boseman, Frank Grillo, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie & Daniel Brühl, with appearances by Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, and Samuel L. Jackson expected. The film opens May 6, 2016

Following the events of Age of Ultron, the collective governments of the world pass an act designed to regulate all superhuman activity. This polarizes opinion amongst the Avengers, causing two factions to side with Iron Man or Captain America, which causes an epic battle between former allies.

Chadwick Boseman On Black Panther

Over the last few years, Chadwick Boseman has been receiving praise for his performances in James Brown and Jackie Robinson biopics, but attention is starting to shift to his role in the Marvel cinematic universe. Boseman won the coveted role of Black Panther and will make his debut in Captain America: Civil War in 2016.

Boseman was recently asked about transitioning to a fictional Black Panther role after portraying real-life people like Brown and Robinson. “You try to tell the Marvel fans that he isn’t real,” Chadwick Boseman told Collider. “That’s even more scary. I would rather have something that I can put my whole life into. When you make movies, it’s such an important period of time, when you look back at each one of them. You want to be able to say that you did something that was a challenge and that changed you. For me, that’s all that it’s about. You put that type of energy into each thing, regardless of what it is.”

Black Panther will arrive in theaters November 3, 2017.

Chadwick Boseman Talks BLACK PANTHER

Chadwick Boseman will first bring Black Panther to life on the big screen in Captain America: Civil War next year. Whether that will be just as T’Challa or suited up and ready for action remains to be seen, but he’s one of the most exciting parts of the threequel, that’s for sure. Talking to Comic Book Resources recently, the actor had this to say about what he’s currently doing to prepare himself for taking on this iconic Marvel Comics role. “I think right now, it’s just going through the possibilities of what he can do,” Boseman teased when asked for specifics. “It’s a brainstorming phase, trying to figure out what it looks like — I’m going to be as vague as I can! — what it looks like and what it should feel like in certain moments. But just going through [the material], because there’s always a difference from one story to the next of who he is — trying to find a way to merge those things together. Because I think that’s always fun when these movies work: it’s when people see several things satisfied at one time. And I think that’s been the fun part so far.”

He’s clearly looking at different interpretations of Black Panther in the comic books then, and the site followed up by asking the actor if there’s anything in particular in them which he’s responded to in a more enthusiastic way than others. “Yeah. Really, all of it. It’s just difficult with this particular character, because there are a lot of things in that time when it was written that did not exist but do exist now, so trying to figure out how would that work now. How is it special now in terms of technology and whatever — but that’s all I can say!” It sounds like T’Challa and Wakanda will be getting an update then. What do you guys think of these comments?

RDJ And Chadwick Boseman Talk About "Black Panther" And Marvel’s Future

Marvel Studios’ Phase 3 of its Shared Movie Universe is now officially confirmed to introduce several comic book characters to the big screen. That includes Captain Marvel and Black Panther, two superheroes who will bring some needed diversity to the Avengers movie team roster. Indeed, Marvel Studios has already begun to reap the PR benefits from the announcement, with a little assistance from Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.).
RDJ is now getting paid more than ever for his contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe onscreen. He also continues to earn that big paycheck offscreen, having praised Marvel films like Guardians of the Galaxy (which Downey Jr. didn’t appear in) and then offered substantial food for thought while talking up Avengers: Age of Ultron. The actor helped to get Marvel’s Film Universe up and running, but he might be an equally important part of the MCU in Phase 3 as he was in Phase 1 & 2.
CBR (via CBM) caught up with RDJ at the 2014 BAFTA LA Jaguar Britannia Awards last week, and asked the actor how it felt to be a key player in Marvel Studios’ forthcoming slate of film releases on through to 2019. He replied:
“It’s great, and I love it. But being able to have Chadwick Boseman be announced for playing Black Panther, and that Marvel is going to have a female superhero – it’s those things that it would have started creating an imbalance, I think, in just what’s appropriate and right and feels like what the people deserve. And so I just think that Marvel has turned into this very kind of civilized, forward-thinking company, and it’s just joyful to be a part of that.”
Tony Stark, as was reported a few weeks ago, will play an important role in the first Phase 3 installment, Captain America: Civil War, which is among the Phase 3 films that will payoff story threads that’ve been building over the course of several Phase 1 & 2 movies now (see also: Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 & 2). However, such upcoming solo Marvel character vehicles as Captain Marvel, Black Panther, and Doctor Strange will not just be relevant to the larger story being told, but also setting up the future of the MCU after the current Avengers roster has finally completed its run.
Black Panther Movie Story Africa RDJ Talks Captain Marvel & Phase 3; Chadwick Boseman on Black Panther
Adding such folk as Carol Danvers and T’Challa will, as RDJ put it, also help to avoid “creating an imbalance” in future Marvel movies, in terms of diversity among the main players. Chadwick Boseman is an acclaimed rising star in his own right; as was pointed out during a recent Screen Rant Underground Podcast episode, Boseman has gotten his pick of roles based on real-life people lately, including the baseball legend Jackie Robinson in 42 and music icon James Brown in Get on Up.
Boseman, when he spoke at the 2014 Contenders event at the DGA Theater on Sunset Blvd., he noted (via Deadline) that “[T’Challa] is not based on a real guy, but maybe I can find him in my ether.” The actor has demonstrated a chameleon-like ability to disappear in his movie roles, so it’ll be all the more interesting to see his take on a multi-faceted fictional characters such as Black Panther now. If nothing else, Boseman (as a casting choice) will add more flavor to the larger MCU acting ensemble.
The Avengers: Age of Ultron releases in theaters on May 1, 2015, followed by Ant-Man on July 17, 2015, Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016, Doctor Strange on November 4, 2016, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 on May 5, 2017, Thor: Ragnarok on July 28, 2017, Black Panther on November 3, 2017, Captain Marvel on July 26, 2018, Inhumans on November 2, 2018, Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 on May 4, 2018 and Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 on May 3, 2019.
