Bryan Singer Announces X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST – THE ROGUE CUT Release Date

The X-Men: Days Of Future Past – Rogue Cut will arrive in stores on Blu-ray/DVD on July 14th, which is a significant date in the history of the franchise as its also the date the original X-Men film premiered in the year 2000. Director Bryan Singer went on to tease the new cut, which will include about 17-20 minutes of new footage, now including Anna Paquin’s scenes as fan favorite mutant Rogue and also including new scenes with Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique and Nicholas Hoult’s Beast, amongst others. He didn’t say much more, but he did take us on a quick tour of a steel mill set made for the currently shooting X-Men: Apocalypse that he says Michael Fassbender’s Magneto is going to have some serious fun at.

Anna Paquin Would Play X-MEN’s ‘Rogue’ Again On One Condition

Even though Anna Paquin’s Rogue was heavily featured in the early promotional material for X-Men: Days Of Future Past, she later saw almost all of her scenes cut due to a pacing issue and was left with a brief, but special, cameo near the tail-end of the blockbuster film. This move likely benefitted the film, which went on to be well-received by critics and fans alike, but her exclusion still left many fans of the long-running franchise wanting, especially after Rogue had been such an integral part of the first three films. Due to the high volume of fan interest, it wasn’t long before Fox announced that they would release a special X-Men: Days Of Future Past – Rogue Cut in the summer of 2015, which would include Paquin’s sequences and more.

It was easy to assume that this would likely be the last time we’d see Paquin suit up as the fan-favorite mutant. Or would it? Based on recent comments, it looks like the Academy Award-winning actress wouldn’t be against returning to the role for a fifth time in the future, but she does have one condition.. check out her comments from a recent Twitter Q&A below:

Well, that’s certainly a fair demand. One of the major gripes fans have had with the cinematic Rogue is that she’s nowhere near as powerful as her comic counterpart, who like Paquin stated above, does fly and also has a few other awesome powers.

As of this posting, Rogue is not expected to appear in X-Men: Apocalypse, but there is always a chance she could show up in the Channing Tatum-starrer Gambit. Paquin is a proven, Academy Award-winning actress and is still only 32, she could fit right in with the 34-year-old Tatum. Also, as we all know, following the events of DOFP, the timeline has changed significantly, so an older Rogue showing up in this new timeline is not exactly out of the question.

Another, possibly better, option would be the Wolverine 3, which is expected to be long-time X-Men star Hugh Jackman’s farewell to the franchise. She was rumored to be a part of the original script for 2013’s The Wolverine, but it might be even more fitting for her to appear in the sequel. The two characters shared a strong bond in the original trilogy, so the highly anticipated James Mangold-directed film could show them coming full circle and saying goodbye.

X-MEN DAYS OF FUTURE PAST’s Rogue Cut Adds 11 Minutes

The new cut restores the Rogue-centric action sequence that was cut from the film’s theatrical relese in order to keep the story more focused. The scene is said to involve Magneto (Ian McKellen) and Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) mounting a rescue mission to free Rogue (Anna Paquin) from the Sentinel-controlled mutant prison camps. Paquin was eventually only seen in the closing scene of the movie, alongside some other surprises from 20th Century Fox’s original trilogy.

The total running time of the film – including the unseen footage – is 142 minutes, 37 seconds.

The British Board of Film Classification has given the new version of the film a 12 certificate, but a date has yet to be confirmed for the DVD and Blu-ray release.

The Rogue Extended Cut of X-Men: Days of Future Past is expected to be released in the summer of 2015.
