Dwayne Johnson To Star In ALPHA SQUAD SEVEN

DreamWorks Pictures is teaming with San Andreas star Dwayne Johnson for a new sci-fi action comedy titled Alpha Squad Seven. The Hollywood Reporter says that Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer are behind the pitch, which has Beau Flynn producing via his FlynnPictureCo. along with Johnson, who will produce through his 7 Bucks Productions.

The trade says that plot details are being kept under wraps, though the project is described as a four-quadrant action-comedy adventure set in space.

Dany Garcia of the Garcia Companies will executive produce and Hiram Garcia will associate produce through 7 Bucks Productions.

Johnson is currently shooting the New Line comedy Central Intelligence opposite Kevin Hart, while the Johnson-starring Ballers premieres on HBO on June 21. He also has the animated Disney film Moana coming and will play Black Adam in Shazam.

Dwayne Johnson Talks Why He Wanted To Play BLACK ADAM

http://c.brightcove.com/services/viewer/federated_f9?isVid=1&isUI=1
Talking to Digital Spy in the video interview above to promote Furious 7, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reveals why he decided to choose the role of Black Adam over Shazam in the 2019 movie. “Because I felt ultimately, and this is with all due respect to Shazam/Billy Batson, it’s a mythology that I love; it’s been with me for almost ten years now; what made me choose Black Adam? I just felt Black Adam was inherently more interesting to me because I felt there were more layers to Black Adam starting out as a slave and then ultimately becoming the anti-hero who we enjoy today.” To hear even more from the actor (including how fans influenced his decision), keep watching the video.

Dwayne Johnson Gives SHAZAM Casting And Script Updates!

Talking to MTV News to promote the release of Furious 7, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was asked how work is progressing on the highly anticipated DC Comics movie which is currently scheduled to be released in 2019. “No, we haven’t picked a Shazam yet, and we have been working on the script. Half the scripts [have] already come in. Fantastic, very excited about it. And what I’m really excited about is — because, again, I’ve lived with this character, and this opportunity for almost 10 years now, so it’s like, in my DNA! I’m like a little kid, and it’s the opportunity to create his journey, but that journey has to start out properly.” The actor then went on to talk more about his portrayal of his villainous character. “And starting off properly is [Black Adam] not being a hero. That’s got to be earned, so he starts off as a slave. And he’s pissed off, and people are going to pay. But eventually down the line he’ll become an anti-hero.”

The Rock’s BLACK ADAM Might Show Up In JUSTICE LEAGUE

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is currently on the press tour for Universal’s Furious 7, and while he’s primarily answering questions about the upcoming action sequel, the good folks over at IGN managed to slip him a quick query about his upcoming role as Black Adam and whether or not he could potentially show up and/or join the Justice League. Check out his answer in the video below and if the video doesn’t work for you, read the transcript that follows:

IGN: We are so excited to see Black Adam as this anti-hero imagining there’s going to be this antagonistic relationship with Shazam, but I’m wondering, are you interested in exploring his heroic side down the line. Do you think that he could eventually join the Justice League?

Dwyane ‘The Rock’ Johnson: I think so, and I think you always want to leave that creatively open, that he could join the Justice League and I think… that’s the fun part of creating this character right now and everybody involved, from the studio, from New Line, to Warner Bros as well, to the writer, our producing partners. You want to… you definitely want to engage in his heroic side, but that has to be earned and with the mythology of Black Adam starting off as a slave, because when you start off as a slave, just inherently, there’s things in your DNA that piss you off. And that’s the bottomline, so I think we have to respect and pay homage to the true mythology and then the heroic side will come down the line, but I think it’s important and we all feel it’s important and I believe the fans at IGN feel it’s important to make sure the homage is paid at the beginning because then you have a stronger foundation to stand on, and so he will become an anti-hero, but at first… daddy’s got to go to work.

Now, let’s recap a bit, Shazam! is expected to hit theaters April 5, 2019, so the earliest we would theoretically see Johnson suited up as Black Adam would be sometime in 2018 when the film kicks off production. However, if he debuted as one of the villains, presuming that there are multiple villains, in Zack Snyder’s Justice League: Part One, which is set to arrive November 17, 2017, we could see him as the character as early as next year when that film begins production. This could potentially mean a showdown between him and Henry Cavill’s Superman might happen sooner than later.

If none of the above comes to fruition, Shazam! does arrive two months before Justice League: Part Two, which releases June 14, 2019, so if he doesn’t appear in the first part, there is always a good chance he could appear in the second.

Dwayne Johnson Talks Black Adam In Shazam; DC Connected Universe

Given all of the other superhero movies coming out in the next few years, it’s easy to forget that a live-action version of Shazam is on the way and that Dwayne Johnson will be playing the antagonist Black Adam. Speaking with Total Film (via Games Radar), Johnson opened up about what he hopes to achieve with the character in the film.

“I think Black Adam is going to grow into becoming an anti-hero,” Johnson said. “It’s all written within the spirit of respecting and paying homage to the comics. As we know, Black Adam started out as a slave. When he’s given the powers, he utilised them. Then in the wake of his powers, tragedy strikes, which turns his sentiment and tone in terms of psychology.”

And as if there was any doubt, Johnson confirmed that the Shazam feature will be tied into the larger DC Cinematic Universe, and that we may see him go up against Henry Cavill’s Superman and Ben Affleck’s Batman.

“It was all agreed that the worlds are all interconnected… One day you will see Black Adam go at it with Superman or Batman or any of the DC characters. But that said, there’s a great independence to Black Adam from the DC world, allowing us to inject, not only viciousness, but also winking humour.”

Jack the Giant Slayer scribe Darren Lemke is currently penning the script for Shazam, which is set to be released April 5, 2019, just a month before Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War Part II. The film tells the story of teenager Billy Batson, who transforms into the superhero when he says the magic word “Shazam!”
