DC DELIGHTS #5: ARROW, THE FLASH Writers At The Ready, SPOILERS, Suicide Squad Stuff, And More

Surprisingly, in comparison with last week’s DC Delights this week’s is a little less intense. As this week’s DC Delights is smaller and more bite sized. Anyway, this week we’re talking Arrow & The Flash writers ready themselves for their next seasons, Gotham season 2 gets season regular, and a bunch of other TV news. On the movie side, we have more Suicide Squad stuff, mainly BTS photos, Momoa gives director a thumbs up, updates on the cancelled George Miller’s Justice League, and much much more! Then some potential spoilers at the end, hint hint that is your first warning!

SO let us dive right in!

TV NEWS

The writers of both Arrow and The Flash have begun to map out the fourth and second seasons respectively. For The Flash writers they will be tackling how to introduce more speedsters and more villains, on the other hand Arrow writers will be meddling with the fourth season villain, Damian Darhk, and many other story arcs and more!

Nicholas D’Agosto made his debut fairly early on in Gotham’s first season last year – popping up in episodes 9 and 10 as a key element in the mid-season finale. Sadly the actor, who plays the duplicitous ‘Harvey Dent’ on the show, only returned for a single episode in the second half of the season. Fans of the character will therefore no doubt be happy to learn that D’Agosto has been bumped up to regular status for next season, per the actor’s Twitter account:

Punisher: War Zone and Green Street Hooligans director Lexi Alexander was talking to fans on Twitter in a quick Q&A, and she made a surprising reveal when one of them asked if Marvel have been in touch to ask her to direct one of their shows on online streaming service Netflix. “They have not. But I’m excited to direct Arrow in August. ;-)”

Victor Garber, who plays the Dr. Martin Stein half of Firestorm, revealed that his other half, Robbie Amell, will appear in the season two premiere of The CW’s “The Flash,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“Robbie and I will be joined on the first episode of the (next) season of ‘The Flash,’ and then we’ll see what happens,” Garber told THR.

Garber is also slated to appear as a series regular in the “Flash”/”Arrow” spinoff, “Legends of Tomorrow,” alongside Caity Lotz, Wentworth Miller, Dominic Purcell and Brandon Routh. Yet there have been no reports that say Amell will join him in the show, leaving Firstorm’s status — at least the Ronnie Raymond half — in question. THR says Amell is “expected to make an appearance,” but not as a series regular.

Garber also teased that The CW had larger plans for the spinoff beyond its initial 15-episode season, saying, “They [CW] aren’t going to introduce a limited series. This isn’t HBO. They want the Full Monty.”

“The Flash” & Arrow returns to The CW and Gotham airs on Fox this fall, with “Legends of Tomorrow” slated to debut in early 2016.

Movie News

Jason Momoa is super stoked to be working with James Wan on Aquaman. Sure grossing $1.4 billion USD and counting on Fast & Furious 7 certainly helped Wan raise his profile and officially land the directing gig after being rumored for months. Wan will also work with Kurt Johnstad (300, Act of Valor) on developing the script.  Reports state that though Wan signed on to helm both Robotech and Aquaman at the same time, Wan will tackle Aquaman first after completing work on The Conjuring 2: The Endfield Experiment .  Wan should complete his work on The Conjuring 2 by Spring 2016, giving him plenty of time to tackle Aquaman for its July 27, 2018 release date.

With cameras surrounding the action packed scene Batman actor Ben Affleck’s stunt double leapt atop the moving vehicle and endeavoured to tear a hole in the roof.
Meanwhile, The Joker – a stunt double stand-in for Jared Leto – laughed maniacally while driving at speed through the empty city street.
Onlookers were also treated to another glimpse of the Batmobile, with the car cruising close by shortly after the action packed scene concluded.

While Suicide Squad director David Ayer has declared that exterior principal photography has been completed, new photos have surfaced with the cast and crew in between takes in Toronto. In addition to a first look at actress Cara Delevingne, who’s playing June Moone/the Enchantress, we also have yet another look at Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Jay Hernandez (EL Diablo), and Karen Fukuhara (Katana) all sporting some bruises in full costume after shooting a subway station scene.

Lastly here are some random BTS photos I have found online.

Directed by David Ayer from his script, Suicide Squad stars Will Smith (Deadshot), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Jared Leto (the Joker), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Boomerang),
Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Jessie Eisenberg (Lex Luthor), and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), with Raymond Olubawale (King Shark), Jay Hernandez, Ike Barinholtz, Jim Parrack, Adam Beach, and Scott Eastwood. The film releases on August 5, 2016!

There have already been a couple of live-action Swamp Thing movies, but although they’re campy fun, they are most definitely not a good representation of the the layered, interesting DC character. There’s been talk of Swamp Thing appearing in Guillermo del Toro’s Dark Universe movie (don’t hold your breath for that one), but short of that or another current DCCU outing it seems the best chance we had for decent take on the Earth Elemental came and went with the aborted 2010 project, which would have been produced by Joel Silver and written by Vincenzo Natali.

The latter has now posted the first four pages of his screenplay, and the direction the movie was going should be obvious to fans of Alan Moore’s acclaimed run.

It’s pretty much unheard of (unless you count Dame Judi Dench’s M returning for the Daniel Craig era Bond flicks) for an actor to reprise a role once the movie they originally appeared in has been rebooted, but that doesn’t stop fans wishing it would happen from time to time. Sure it’d mean continuity/canon issues – but who wouldn’t like to see J.K. Simmons back as J.J. Jameson in Marvel’s new Spider-Man movie for example? The same could be said for Mark Strong’s Sinestro, who was praised as one of the only positive aspects of Warner Bros.’ first Green Lantern attempt.

In an interview with MTV, Strong says he was proud of what he achieved with the performance, but doesn’t think there’s be a place for him in the DCCU as that character.

Despite being a huge comic book fan, Kevin Smith has never helmed a superhero flick, and while speaking to KPCC host John Horn at the Produced By conference in LA he admits that he’s not likely to ever get the opportunity to. But, he says if he did he’d like to make a movie based on The Question.

Smith’s idea would put a “noir-ish thriller” spin on the DC comics vigilante who uses a special substance to erase his features and a binary gas to recolour his cloths and hair. “I always thought if you were in an alley and f—ing Batman showed up you’d be like, ‘Oh f—, Batman.’ But if a dude shows up with no features and starts punching you, you would probably kill yourself in fear,” he explained to THR.

POTENTIAL SPOILERS FROM THIS POINT ON

After the first official trailer for Zack Snyder’s Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice was released, fans were very curious about the shots that appeared to depict the Dark Knight brandishing a rifle of some sort. Obviously Batman and guns don’t exactly have a very good relationship (though it’s worth noting that he has actually used them in the comics when the situation called for it) so it seemed like an unusual choice of weapon for the character. Well, turns out it wasn’t a sniper rifle, but some sort of Kryptonite-laced spear!

This information comes from Heroic Hollywood, who choose not to go into any more detail in regards to how Batman comes by the Kryptonite, or how he uses it against Superman (we assume he… spears him?) but that one tidbit alone makes for some interesting speculation. We know Bats will eventually suit-up in that very formidable looking Dark Knight Returns-inspired armor, so perhaps the spear is just a precursor to that and one of his first attempts to bring down the Man of Steel?

Heroic Hollywood again claims to have some more details on the Dark Knight’s role in the Suicide Squad movie, and it definitely sounds like we’ll be getting classic Batman based on this scene description:

In short, he goes and pays Amanda Waller a visit. Batman BREAKS into her massive security prison. In fact…he’s already inside Amanda Waller’s office waiting for her in the shadows when she appears. The guards are clueless. Batman has a bone to pick with Waller. You see Batman is totally against the concept behind the Suicide Squad, in fact he warns Waller that he will hold her personally responsible for any innocents The Joker & the rest of the Suicide Squad kill. A warning so stern that he has to visit Waller personally to deliver the message.

There you have it folks another DC Delights completed, and now I hope you are fully up to date on all things DC! Goodbye and enjoy your weekend!

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice will be in theaters on March 25th, 2016; Suicide Squad on August 5th, 2016; Wonder Woman – June 23rd, 2017; Justice League – November 17th, 2017; The Flash – March 23rd, 2018; Aquaman – July 27th, 2018; Shazam – April 5th, 2019; Justice League 2 – June 14th, 2019; Cyborg – April 3rd, 2020; Green Lantern – June 19th, 2020.

First Z FOR ZACHARIAH Trailer; Robbie, Pine, & Ejiofor Are Survivors

Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have released the first Z for Zachariah trailer. The film stars Margot Robbie as a young woman living in a fertile valley that has somehow been spared from nuclear war. One day, she meets a fellow survivor (Chiwetel Ejiofor) and they begin to form a bond, but their relationship is strained when another man (Chris Pine) enters the picture.

While this trailer plays up the love triangle aspect of the story, it does give us a glimpse at what it will be like and what type of theme it is presenting, human frailty. It is also showing the underlying tension between the characters and their situation.

In the wake of a nuclear war, a young woman survives on her own, fearing she may actually be the proverbial last woman on earth, until she discovers the most astonishing sight of her life: another human being. A distraught scientist, he’s nearly been driven mad by radiation exposure and his desperate search for others. A fragile, imperative strand of trust connects them. But when a stranger enters the valley, their precarious bond begins to unravel. Z FOR ZACHARIAH is inspired by the novel of the same name by Robert C. O’Brien, published posthumously in 1974, and was created by Pall Grimsson and adapted for the screen by Nissar Modi (Breaking At The Edge).

Principal photography on Suicide Squad is about to enter its seventh week of production in Toronto, Canada. And in addition to preparation for an action sequence involving a chopper crashing into two Midway City buses, a new batch of photos (via Margot Source) have revealed some rather dark usual-looking, fully armed creatures on the open set over the weekend.

Based on their appearance alone, it’s difficult to determine which DC Comics characters these guys could be, if any at all. However, they may actually be soldiers who have met Cara Delevingne’s “goddess witch,” the Enchantress, who we’ve seen officially but not yet on set.

Here’s some other set photos seemingly show us that s*&T is going “down” wherever Suicide Squad is taking place *cough*Gotham*cough*!

We must have seen more unofficial images and videos from the set of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad than any other CBM in recent history at this point, but one team member who’s been absent (though we did see some strange creatures she may have been responsible for) so far is Enchantress, who’ll be played by model turned actress Cara Delevingne.

During an interview with EW, the Paper Towns star remains tight lipped about her character, but does have some very nice things to say about the currently shooting flick, while admitting that she’s not usually a big fan of the genre.

“It’s f–king insane”, she tells the site. “I’m not the biggest fan of superhero films. There are so f–king many. I love the Batmans but some of them I’m not that keen on. I’ve never been so excited to see a film and I’m actually in it. I wish I could tell you about it at all. The movie is going to be the best thing in the world. The camaraderie on set is insane.”

Directed by David Ayer from his script, Suicide Squad stars Will Smith (Deadshot), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Jared Leto (the Joker), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), with Raymond Olubawale (King Shark), Jay Hernandez, Ike Barinholtz, Jim Parrack, Adam Beach, and Scott Eastwood. The film releases on August 5, 2016.

Official Look At The SUICIDE SQUAD; New BTS Photos Show More Of The Gang

Here it is, our first official look at the Suicide Squad.

Pictured from left to right are: Adam Beach (Cowboys & Aliens) as Slipknot, Jai Courtney (Terminator: Genisys) as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne (Paper Towns) as Enchantress, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop) as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie (The Wolf Of Wall Street) as Harley Quinn, Will Smith (Men In Black) as Deadshot, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Thor: The Dark World) as Killer Croc, and Jay Hernandez (Hostel) as El Diablo.

While Suicide Squad director David Ayer got the jump on the paparazzi by releasing some official images(look above), last night’s filming in Toronto involved an action sequence with stars Will Smith (Deadshot), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), and Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang) among others featured in the group shot. However, new set photos from Just Jared offer a first look at actor Scott Eastwood, whose army getup might further indicate that he is Steve Trevor.

More Suicide Squad set photos from Margot Source reveal almost the whole Task Force X gang in full costume including the stunning Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Jay Hernandez as El Diablo, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc.

Main Cast | Suicide Squad | Set Photos

Following the reveal of the full Suicide Squad roster (you can check that out above) Will Smith himself has revealed a character portrait featuring his take on Deadshot, and you’ll be glad to know that he does indeed have the mask and classic eyepiece.

Directed by David Ayer from his script, Suicide Squad stars Will Smith (Deadshot), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Jared Leto (the Joker), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Boomerang),
Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), Jessie Eisenberg (Lex Luthor), and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), with Raymond Olubawale (King Shark), Jay Hernandez, Ike Barinholtz, Jim Parrack, Adam Beach, Karen Fukuhara (Katana), and Scott Eastwood. The film releases on August 5, 2016!

David Ayer’s SUICIDE SQUAD Cast Photo; Deathstroke, Dr. Hugo Strange, And Ravan Cast?

David Ayer has shared a main cast photo for his upcoming DC venture, Suicide Squad, which shows the already confirmed cast but with some surprising extras!

So, here is what is presumably the main cast of Suicide Squad. From L – R are director David Ayer, Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flagg), Will Smith (Deadshot), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Killer Croc), Jay Hernandez (El Diablo), Karen Fukuhara (Plastique), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Captain Boomerang), Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), and Viola Davis (Amanda Waller). More to the point, where the hell is Jared Leto? Probably taking the photo as his hair likely a shade of green right now…Jesse Eisenberg, Scott Eastwood, and others are missing too.

A few mystery parts have also seemingly been cast as previously unannounced actors Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project), Jim Parrack (Fury), and Adam Beach (Cowboys & Aliens) were also pictured.

Their roles were a mystery for an hour or so before Latino-Review’s El Mayimbe dropped another major scoop shedding some light on how the trio play into the picture. It looks like due to a snag in negotiations (and a convenient decision to go younger with the character), Joe Manganiello (Spider-Man) is out as Deathstroke and Jim Parrack has been selected as his replacement. He also revealed that comedian Ike Barinholtz has been cast as Dr. Hugo Strange and Adam Beach is rumored to have been cast as Ravan.

POSSIBLE Details On Margot Robbie’s ‘Harley Quinn’ Look(s) For SUICIDE SQUAD

Yet again Latino-Review’s El Mayimbe has dished out more information about the upcoming DC and David Ayer project, Suicide Squad, this time however it’s Harleen Quinzel or more commonly referred as Harley Quinn! Who will be played by Margot Robbie and probably will be the center of attention for a lot of Suicide Squad fans!

El Mayimbe gave the scoop through his Instagram account saying the following: “Harley Quinn has a few looks throughout the film. Going from traditional with the animated series as a reference to prison attire & in one sequence where they infiltrate a club she wears a dress. Get this, her & Joker’s pet Hyena’s are in the film briefly. Apparently, Harley with the hyena’s are a big motif.”

Two of Harley’s most recent costumes (from the current Suicide Squad comic and the Arkham video game series) drew some backlash for being a bit (well, a lot) on the revealing side, so we may not see Robbie in anything resembling those ones.

Margot Robbie Talks SUICIDE SQUAD Casting, And More!

Talking to MTV News recently, Margot Robbie was asked how she ended up landing the role of Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad. As it turns out, she didn’t have to audition, and it makes you wonder whether Warner Bros. took note of the massive fan support that the actress has had for this role ever since The Wolf of Wall Street was released. “I actually got offered this one, I didn’t audition, which is a real step up as an actor when you can get offered things,” she said before revealing that her and Will Smith “didn’t have to do chemistry reads or anything like that, and then I already knew, vaguely knew Jared Leto, who’s playing the Joker.” While Robbie wasn’t willing to give away any plot details, she did have this to say about the kind of tone that David Ayer is aiming for: “I think on a scale of like, ‘Dark Knight’ is here and ‘Avengers’ is here, I think it’s more on the ‘Dark Knight’ side of things.”

Margot Robbie Gives SUICIDE SQUAD Multi-Picture Deal Details

Given David Ayer’s Suicide Squad movie will most definitely explore the twisted love affair between Harley Quinn and the Joker, actress Margot Robbie was asked recently whether or not she has spent time with co-star Jared Leto since being almost three months ago. “I heard from his manager that he was not that far behind me, so I’ll say hi when he gets here,” Robbie told MTV last night while attending the 87th annual Academy Awards. “We haven’t seen each other since we got the [Suicide Squad] roles, so hopefully he’s happy about it.”

In a separate interview with AZCentral, Margot Robbie was asked whether or not it’s scary to know that her multi-picture contract may require her to play Harley Quinn for years. “Yeah, that’s daunting,” she replied. “You don’t need to have commitment issues to be frightened by the fact that you might have just signed 10 years of your life away. … But with her, it’s a character I don’t think would ever get boring. Ever. So if they did Suicide Squad One, Two and Three, I would be over the moon about it.”

Directed David Ayer from his screenplay, Suicide Squad stars Will Smith (Deadshot), Joel Kinnaman (Rick Flag), Jared Leto (the Joker), Margot Robbie (Harley Quinn), Jai Courtney (Boomerang), with Cara Delevingne (Enchantress), and Jessie Eisenberg (Lex Luthor). The film opens August 5, 2016!

Will Smith & Margot Robbie Weigh In On SUICIDE SQUAD

MTV sat down with Margot Robbie and Will Smith to chat about their upcoming film Focus, but also tossed in a few questions regarding David Ayer’s Suicide Squad.

Smith begins the discussion by mentioning how excited he is to work with director David Ayer on Suicide Squad because he was so impressed with Ayer’s last film Fury. He then explains why he is looking forward to playing the eagle-eyed assassin known as Deadshot. “With this character and the DC world, I love that I’m getting the opportunity for the global definition of Deadshot,” Will Smith told MTV. “There’s been Deadshot in little appearances here and there, there’s an idea, but Deadshot isn’t defined, really. I get to be a part of the creation that will be the biggest historical image of Deadshot.”

Margot Robbie then says how excited she was by the possibility of working with Smith again that she texted him demanding, playfully, that he take it. “I’m signed on, and you better sign on to, ” she told Smith.

When MTV mentioned that she could be playing Harley Quinn for multiple films she immediately said she “Hopes so” because “She’s rad.” Yeah, we like to think Harley is pretty rad too.

Suicide Squad will land in theaters Aug. 5, 2016.
