Simon Pegg Will Give Idris Elba A Kickass Role For STAR TREK 3; Possible Title?

The crew of the starship Enterprise always hopes to go where no one has gone before. For the third movie, that might be “Beyond.”

The third film in the recently rebooted Star Trek series now has a likely title. After Star Trek and Star Trek Into Darkness, Star Trek 3 is likely to be called Star Trek Beyond. Read more about the Star Trek 3 title below.

TrekMovie.com is reporting the Star Trek 3 title news.

Cornered by MTV at CinemaCon, Simon Pegg seemed to underscore the comments he made last month to SPINOFF, noting that while the films can’t recreate the original TV series, they can embrace its “essence.”

“We can certainly invest in it the spirit of the show and get back to the essence of what it is,” he explained. “What we’re hoping to do is make a ‘Star Trek’ for today that doesn’t forget where it came from.”

Pegg also at least unofficially unconfirmed Elba’s involvement in “Star Trek 3″ — ““Idris is an extraordinary actor and we’re trying to write him a kickass role” — but shot down speculation he’ll play a character from the series.

“This is a five-year mission now, we’re out there,” he said. “We don’t always have to keep bumping into the same people. It’s a massive universe […] so we’re going to try to reflect that in the movie.”

And finally, in the wake of the new Star Wars trailer, Pegg was asked if he thought The Force Awakens would be better than the prequels. Without hesitation, he responded:

“I think the trailer is better than all of the prequels combined.”

Beginning production in June, “Star Trek 3″ features returning cast members Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho and Anton Yelchin. It opens July 8, 2016.

Simon Pegg Shoots Down Idris Elba Klingon Rumours For STAR TREK 3

Last week brought a major rumor that Idris Elba would be playing a Klingon villain in Star Trek 3. So inevitably, this week brings a stringent denial of said rumor. Star Trek 3 star and writer Simon Pegg says in no uncertain terms that the talk isn’t true — the Klingon part of it, anyway. The Idris Elba part might still be.

Pegg shot down the Idris Elba Klingon rumors in a chat with Absolute Radio:

That’s not true. No, no, no. I heard there’s a rumor he’s been spoken to about stuff, so he may be in the film but he won’t be a Klingon. [Laughs.] Or maybe he will!

If anyone should know whether Elba will be playing a Klingon in the next film, it’s Pegg. Not only is he a star and a fan, he’s writing the damn thing. But just because he knows doesn’t mean he’s willing to say. Remember, this is the same guy who insisted that those Benedict-Cumberbatch-as-Khan rumors were just “a myth.”

At least we can trust Pegg when he says he’s working hard to deliver a satisfying movie. “It’s enormous pressure. I’m barely able to speak right now I’m so terrified,” he said. “We’ll just keep plugging away at it, and hopefully come up with something that the fans like — everybody likes, not just the fans.”

To that end, Pegg wants to pin down what makes Star Trek special. He said in a previous interview:

I have to try to take on the spirit of the show, rather than fill it with stuff that people will just go, “Oh, yeah, that’s from episode something or other.” It’s more than that.

The Star Trek 3 script will be done by June “come hell or high water,” and shooting will get underway this year for release on July 8, 2016.

Idris Elba Would Make A Great JAMES BOND Says Bond Producer

During a set visit for the latest James Bond film Spectre, Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli were asked about the potential of Idris Elba replacing Daniel Craig as 007.

“I think he’d make a great Bond,” Wilson replied instantaneously.

“I always say, it’s like asking a woman who’s going up the aisle on her wedding day who her next husband is going to be,” Broccoli joked. “You know, Daniel Craig is Bond, and I don’t want to think about what happens when he goes. But I’m a huge fan of Idris — we all are. He’s a great actor, and he could do anything. So ask me when we’re looking for a new Bond — which hopefully won’t be for a long time.”

After Spectre, Craig is only signed on for one more Bond film. He is not being pushed out the door as producers say it is up to Craig if he wants to continue playing 007 beyond his current contract. “We want him for as long as he wants,” Wilson stated.

Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, John Cho and Simon Pegg are reprising their respective roles. Pegg, additionally, is writing the script with Doug Jung.

Details of Elba’s role are being kept under wraps. Early rumors suggest that Klingons would be the main villains in this movie, as they have not had a full presence in previous installments, but sources would not confirm if that was the case. Paramount and Skydance had no comment.

Elba is on screens with Sean Penn in The Gunman and his African drama Beasts of No Nation was picked up for distribution by Netflix.

While attending a press event for his upcoming film Kill Me Three Times, Simon Pegg spoke with Collider, and discussed the writing process for Star Trek 3, why he took on the writing duties, and when the script is due. Pegg was first asked by Collider what it felt like writing the script for Star Trek 3, his answer: “Terrifying!”

The actor would then explain in more detail what made made the writing process so frightening saying  “the timeframe we’re working in is extremely tight. Pegg also reveals that taking on the writing duties weren’t otiginally his idea, but producer Bryan Burk’s, who asked Pegg if ihe was up for it. “I owe J.J. [Abrams] and Bryan an awful amount. I love those guys. I want to do right by them, so I felt like I should man up and do it,” Pegg said, revealing why he took the job. Along with this Pegg also reveals that the script is do by this June, but it will ultimately continue up until next year, because “never really, truly start writing a movie until the edit.”

JAMES BOND: Sony Want THOR Star Idris Elba To Be The Next JAMES BOND

There’s been a lot of talk about the next James Bond being played by a black actor, and one name which keeps coming up is Luther and Thor: The Dark World star Idris Elba. He’s even expressed interest in the role, revealing in a reddit Q&A not too long ago that, “Yes, if it was offered to me, absolutely,” he would play the Ian Fleming creation.

Just like many of us think Elba should be next 007, so too does Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chairman Amy Pascal according to more leaded “Sony Hack” emails unearthed by The Daily Beast.

In an email from January 2014 (so quite some time ago, and an indication that the good stuff in these emails is now reaching an end), she’s quoted as saying, “Idris should be the next bond.” It’s something they’ve thought about then, but as Pascal will more than likely be out of a job soon as this scandal worsens, her opinion may not matter…

Idris Elba Loves Marvel Studios!

During an interview last month, when Idris Elba revealed his and Tom Hiddleston’s inclusion in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the British actor had also recalled a “torture” experience doing reshoots for Thor: The Dark World just 24 hours after portraying late anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela. Some headlines and coverage of the interview had ran with the belief that Elba wanted out of his contract with Marvel Studios, for whom he plays the Asgardian gatekeeper Heimdall, but he now tells The Daily Beast that that is not the case at all. “I don’t know where people got that, man,” responded Idris Elba. “I was quite specifically talking about the comparison between playing Heimdall on one day, and playing Mandela on the next. That’s sloppy journalism, or just really bad misquoting. I have a great relationship with the Marvel team, and the character of Heimdall. People are really running with this thing like, ‘Oh my God, he doesn’t want to be with Marvel anymore.’ People thinking that comparing those roles means I don’t want to be with Marvel, well, that’s crazy.” Anyhow, Idris Elba will appear briefly as Heimdall in “Avengers: Age of Ultron”;next year, and he is also likely to return for “Thor: Ragnarok” on July 28, 2017.
Marvel Studios presents Avengers: Age of Ultron, the epic follow-up to the biggest Super Hero movie of all time. Tom Hiddleston’s Loki And Idris Elba’s Heimdall Confirmed For Avengers: Age of Ultron

While it was previously thought that Tom Hiddleston’s Loki would not be a part of Avengers: Age of Ultron, it has now been revealed by Idris Elba that both him and Hiddleston are actually in the film.
In an interview with the Telegraph, Elba let the detail slip out while talking about a DJ set he had played in a Ibizia nightclub. Elba revealed that the day before the DJ set he had just shot a scene for Avengers: Age of Ultron. Elba said, “And I’m doing a scene with Chris Hemsworth [who plays Thor] and Tom Hiddleston [Loki], and they’re like, [whispers] – ‘Aren’t you [meant to be] in Ibiza?’”
So what is the mystery scene that Elba is referring to that he shot with Hemsworth and Hiddleston? The Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer revealed what appeared to be flashback scenes for Captain America and Black Widow. The Avengers: Age of Ultron clip shown at the Marvel Studios Phase 3 event also featured Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. talking about what that Maximoff kid had shown Thor. It’s probably likely that Hiddleston and Elba appear in a vision that Scarlet Witch shows Thor.
In addition to mentioning his Avengers: Age of Ultron scene, Elba also talked about the challenge of adjusting from playing Mandela to doing a reshoot scene for Thor: The Dark World. Ebla said, “I’m actually falling down from a spaceship, so they had to put me in harness in this green-screen studio. And in between takes I was stuck there, fake hair stuck on to my head with glue, this f—— helmet, while they reset. And I’m thinking: ‘24 hours ago, I was Mandela’.”
Avengers: Age of Ultron is set to be released in movie theaters on May 1, 2015.
