INDIANA JONES 5 Confirmed, But Still in Early Development

When Disney purchased Lucasfilm, the headline news, of course, was that the Mouse House would be moving forward with a new series of Star Wars films. But many also pointed out that as a result of the sale, Disney now had control of another major franchise: Indiana Jones. It was never a question of if Disney would be moving forward with a new Indiana Jones movie, but instead when, and now Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that Indiana Jones 5 is indeed in the works.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, Kennedy was optimistic about the future of Indiana Jones, but cautioned that it’s still very early days:

Kennedy confirmed rumors that another Indy movie “will one day be made inside this company. When it will happen, I’m not quite sure. We haven’t started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it.”

No doubt Kennedy is primarily focused on getting the next phase of the Star Wars franchise off the ground first, with the launch of Star Wars: The Force Awakens this December and a new Star Wars movie every year after that. Things seem to be coalescing quite well on that front, though they were dealt a blow recently when Josh Trank left/was removed from the 2018 Star Wars Anthology film, now reported to be a Boba Fett movie.

Rumors have swirled about an Indiana Jones sequel for a long time now, and indeed in late 2013 Disney gave a timetable of “at least two to three years.” Word has picked up in recent months, with the latest rumor claiming that Steven Spielberg is interested in directing an Indiana Jones reboot starring Chris Pratt. That’s far from confirmed, and as Kennedy points out, the first order of business is putting together a script. Frank Darabont wrote a pretty terrific draft of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull that was subsequently tossed aside, so might I suggest bringing him back into the fold?

Whatever the case, Indiana Jones 5 and/or an Indiana Jones reboot is definitely on the horizon; it just may be a while before we see it come to fruition.

DISNEY Have Got A Lot On Their Plates For The Next TWO YEARS!

With Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm under their banner, it’s pretty obvious Disney has some of the biggest movies coming out over the next few years. Add in Disney Animation, DreamWorks and their live action fare, and it gets even bigger. However, until you see all of those films represented in a single image, it’s difficult to grasp the scope of Disney’s impressive release schedule.

It’s not exactly news, but at CinemaCon 2015, which is currently taking place in Las Vegas, Disney showed an image with all of their announced theatrical releases stretching through the summer of 2017. It’s absolutely mind-boggling. Below, see the image of Disney movies release dates, and the full list of movies.

The image was tweeted by /Film, but here it is blown up:

These have all previously been revealed but let’s run them down:

Avengers: Age of Ultron – 5/1/15
Tomorrowland – 5/22/15
Inside Out – 6/19/15
Ant-Man – 7/17/15
Bridge of Spies – 10/16/15
The Good Dinosaur – 11/25/15
Star Wars: The Force Awakens – 12/18/15
The Finest Hours – 1/29/16
Zootopia – 3/4/16
The Jungle Book – 4/15/16
Captain America: Civil War – 5/6/16
Alice Through the Looking Glass – 5/27/16
Finding Dory – 6/17/16
The BFG – 7/1/16
Pete’s Dragon – 8/12/16
Doctor Strange – 11/4/16
Moana – 11/23/16
Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One – 12/16/16
Beauty and the Beast – 3/17/17
Ghost in the Shell – 4/14/17
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 – 5/5/17
Star Wars: Episode VIII – 5/26/17
Toy Story 4 – 6/16/17
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales – 7/7/17

The image stops here, but Box Office Mojo has the rest of it, and it’s still crazy:

Thor: Ragnarok – 11/3/17
Untitled Pixar Animation – 11/22/17
Untitled Disney Animation – 3/9/18
Avengers: Infinity War Part I – 5/4/18
Untitled Pixar Animation – 6/15/18
Black Panther – 7/6/18
Captain Marvel – 11/2/18
Untitled Disney Animation – 11/21/18
Avengers: Infinity War Part II – 5/3/19
Inhumans – 7/12/19

And that’s not including the next Star Wars Anthology film, which will likely be out in 2018, or Star Wars Episode IX, which will likely be out in 2019. I’d also venture to guess one of those untitled Pixar Animation films is The Incredibles 2 and one of the Untitled Disney Animation films is Frozen 2. It’s absolutely incredible.

Brad Bird Pushing A Side Superhero Tropes For THE INCREDIBLES 2

Brad Bird is currently making the rounds on his press tour for Disney’s Tomorrowland, however, he recently stated that once his obligations on the George Clooney and Brit Robertson sci-fi adventure are complete, he’ll begin work on the script for The Incredibles 2.  When asked about what story he wished to tackle in the Pixar sequel, Bird partially sidestepped the question by discussing what he didn’t want to tackle.

Said Bird, “Well, I worry if you comment too much on other movies [in your own movie] then you might just be coasting off their good will. There was a very lazy trend in comedy where somebody would start singing the theme song from The Flintstones and you’re supposed to dig on it just because you recognize it. So I don’t like that. I think that movies ought to work in and of themselves. However… I would say that the superhero movie turf right now is very trodden over — it’s kind of like a field that’s had too many games on it, and it’s just dried up dirt at this point.”

However, what he did share about The Incredibles 2 should be encouraging to fans.

“I think that the greatest special effect is caring about a character. A lot of movies seem to forget that, and they bring out a lot of fireballs and then wonder why the fireballs don’t have that much impact, no matter how loud and how big they are. But the truth is that the fireball isn’t that exciting unless you care about the person running from it.”

The full interview with Bird will be available in issue 59 of Little White Lies, on sale May 7.

Olivia Wilde Talks TRON 3 Possible Storyline

People have been talking Tron 3 ever since TRON: Legacy hit theaters back in December 2010, but it wasn’t until last month that it started to seem like a third installment would actually happen. First a rumor surfaced claiming that the film might go into production in the fall in Vancouver, then a Production Weekly tweet specified an early October start and then after that we found out that Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde were expected to reprise their roles. All good news, but none of it has been confirmed by Disney or any of the folks involved, until now.

While talking to Wilde for the world premiere of Meadowland at the Tribeca Film Festival, she confirmed that she’s also heard that the movie will begin shooting in Vancouver in October:
“You know, I’ve heard the same. I think there’s a lot of people really excited to make it happen within Disney and in the world, and we’ve been dreaming of making it since we finished Legacy so I would be thrilled.”
Even though it’s taken the Tron team nearly five years to get another movie going, Wilde stressed that they’ve been interested in making another film ever since finishing up Legacy. The only problem has been finding the right story:
“The delay has only ever been story, finding the right story. It hasn’t been anything else. There’s never been a time where we wanted to go and then schedules got in the way. It’s only been like, ‘That’s not the right story.’ So, in the past year, the right story kind of came together and we felt, ‘Oh, this actually – this might be the right one to tell.’ And, you know, there’s still a lot to be done before it could actually happen, but the fact that there’s a goal of this year to start is really exciting.”
So clearly they’ve got a promising story idea, but does that mean they’ve got a script, too? Here’s what Wilde said when asked if she’s read one:
“I have, I have.”
At the end of Legacy, Sam and Quorra leave the grid and wind up in the real world, so when asked what she’s looking forward to most in the film to come, it’s no surprise that Wilde noted that she’s especially thrilled to bring her character into new territory:
“I love this character of Quorra so much and I’ve built her with Joe Kosinski and we took her such a long way from what was written to what we made. I mean, I fought for her to be this kind of androgynous child and that’s so not what you typically see in these movies, so I’m so grateful that the producers let me play with her and make her this strange little being. And I’m really excited to see what happens to that character when put into the real world. I think it’s an interesting concept. I’m fascinated by all discussions of AI, and especially now today and now with virtual reality becoming something that’s like a personal device, I think it’s the time to tell this story.”
Again, Disney has yet to confirm that the film is actually happening, but Wilde certainly makes it seem like the studio and everyone involved is eager to get going. Hopefully we’ll get an official announcement and perhaps a release date in the near future.

"Chewie We’re Home"; The Second Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer HAS DROPPED!!

The first full trailer for Disney and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens dropped today during the opening of Star Wars Celebration Live, a four-day orgy of all things Jedi at the Anaheim Convention Center.
“Chewie we’re home.” And yes we are HAN SOLO!!!
The trailer was revealed during the panel, where director J.J. Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy sat down before a packed crowd. They showed off some of the droids (new and old) and dished about lead actors Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega who showed up onstage to answer fan questions. A bit of clarity on the plot shown here: Isaac plays an X-wing fighter pilot “sent on a mission by a certain princess,” Isaac said today, who meets Boyega’s stormtrooper and “their fates are forever intertwined.”

This is the first shots of the pic since the 88-second teaser that dropped in November as it began playing in North American theaters. It revealed little plot but it did give fans their first real look at stormtroopers, droids, X-wing fighters, that new light saber and the Millennium Falcon.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens has a  December 18 release date, followed down the line by at least two more episodes (Star Wars Episode VIII has a May 26, 2017 release date already) and spinoff pics starting with Star Wars: Rogue One (December 16, 2016).

Olivia Wilde And Garrett Hedlund Set To Return For TRON 3

The Hollywood Reporter are reporting that Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund are to team and return for Disney’s Tron 3.

The pair will reprise their characters from 2010’s Tron: Legacy in the sequel that is being directed by Joseph Kosinski.

Legacy was the sequel to the 1982 sci-fi film that took place inside a computer world known as the Grid and starred Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner. While not a hit at the time, it later drew a big cult following and became an influence on filmmakers and pop culture.

Decades later, Disney revisited the world with Legacy. The story revealed that the computer programmer character played by Bridges had a son (Hedlund) who jumps into the Grid to find his father. Wilde was Quorra, an algorithm made flesh who also happened to kick butt.

Disney has been developing a sequel to Legacy since the movie grossed $400 million worldwide. Hedlund in 2012 said he would return to the visual effects-heavy franchise but that was when the project was circling a 2014 start.

The project is now looking to shoot this fall, likely in Vancouver. Plot details are being kept offline.

Justin Springer will be involved as a producer.

The Next STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Trailer Attached To AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON

So when is the next trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awkens? According to Collider it will first premiere at the Star Wars Celebration convention, which runs from April 16th to 19th. Then a couple of days later fans will get to see it on the big screen in front of Avengers: Age of Ultron. Marvel’s The Avengers had a whopping $207.4 million opening weekend domestically and went on to gross over $1.5 billion worldwide, so Age of Ultron is just about the biggest theatrical platform of the year with which to launch this new Star Wars trailer.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, Christina Chong and Miltos Yerolemou, with the J.J. Abrams-directed film debuting in theaters on December 18, 2015.

Possible TRON 3 Title

Earlier this month, we reported that Disney was going forward on a third TRON movie and that filming might begin as soon as this fall in Vancouver. Now Production Weekly that TRON 3 will be titled TRON: Ascension, and start a five-month shoot beginning October:

TRON: Legacy did throw out a few breadcrumbs for continuing the story. Notably, “Rinzler” was actually TRON, and Cillian Murphy had an uncredited cameo as Edward Dillinger Jr., the son of TRON villain Ed Dillinger (David Warner). But these few items made it seems like TRON: Legacy was laying down track before even knowing how far its light cycle could ride.

RUMOUR: A Live-Action STAR WARS Show?

According to Cinelinx via /Film, a live-action Star Wars television show is secretly in development which will use the same sets constructed at Pinewood Studios in London.  Reportedly, the show is in a holding pattern until the new Star Wars trilogy and the Star Wars spinoff films are all mapped out.  The television show would then shoot between films, when Pinewood and the Star Wars sets were available.  This plan is sounds fairly similar to Ron Howard’s plan for a live-action adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower book series.

This would not be the first time a live-action Star Wars TV show was in the development stage.  Prior to Disney’s acquisition of LucasFilm, George Lucas tried in vain to get a live-action Star Wars television program of the ground to no avail.  Following Disney’s purchase, ABC (owned by Disney) president Paul Lee stated that a Star Wars television program would be something the network would definitely consider.

RUMOUR: J.J. Abrams Frontrunner to Helm STAR WARS: EPISODE IX

Although “The Force Awakens” doesn’t arrive until December, and “Episode IX” until four years after that, rumors are already circulating about who will step behind the camera for the final chapter of the new “Star Wars” trilogy.

According to Latino Review, J.J. Abrams is the frontrunner to direct, forming a creative bookend for the series. Rian Johnson (“Looper,” “Brick”) was announced last year to helm “Episode VIII,” and it was suggested at the time he might return for the sequel.

Although Abrams’ name was absent last week from Disney’s press release about the Gareth Edwards-directed spinoff “Rogue One” and “Episode VIII,” Latino Review insists “there’s a good chance” he’ll be back: “[T]hose at Disney who have seen footage from ‘The Force Awakens’ are very happy with what Abrams has delivered. J.J. himself has been vocal about how crazy the process has been, but has given equal time to his love of the series.”

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” opens Dec. 18, followed by “Star Wars: Rogue One” on Dec. 16, 2016, and “Star Wars: Episode VIII” on May 26, 2017.
