A Potential Link With "Green Lantern" And "Batman V Superman"

The first Green Lantern movie isn’t even coming until 2020, but it already looks like Warner Bros. and director Zack Snyder are planting the seeds in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice for what’s to come. Among the new and returning characters, the DC superhero team-up will also bring back a small Man of Steel character, that of Major Carrie Farris, played by actress Christina Wren. And if her comic book origins are any indication, it looks like she might have a larger role in the grand scheme of things.

Wren recently spoke with Pittsburgh magazine about her return for the Man of Steel sequel. Though she prefaced her comments by reiterating that this has not been officially confirmed, she addressed her character’s comic book counterpart.

My character’s name is Carrie Farris; there’s a character named Carol [Ferris] who’s the Green Lantern’s girlfriend and turns into this superhero, Star Sapphire. But I have no idea if that’s the plan; they’re not even slated to do a Green Lantern film for several years.

In the comics, Carol was a businesswoman and pilot, and she eventually came to run the family business of Ferris Air after her father retired. She hired her childhood friend and sometimes love interest Hal Jordan to be a test pilot. But not too long after Jordan ascended to Green Lantern status, she was possessed by a Star Sapphire gem, which altered her personality to fit a more villainous mold. For a while she was a thorn in Lantern’s side, though she would eventually mend her evil ways and become a hero of love. Snyder and co. have a master plan for their Justice League superhero movie line-up, and the fact that Wren’s character is so closely named after Star Sapphire has us wondering if there’s any truth to this rumor. We certainly wouldn’t put it past him.

Aside from Carrie Farris, Batman v Superman is also said to feature cameos from most of the Justice League members, including Jason Momoa’s Aquaman, Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher’s Cyborg and possibly even Ezra Miller’s The Flash. In addition, there’s also the mysterious characters played Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey, Tao Okamoto and Scoot McNairy. While McNairy is rumored to be Jimmy Olsen with a twist, the other three are playing roles newly created for the film. Given all these characters, as well as Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg), Alfred (Jeremy Irons), Batman (Ben Affleck), Lois Lane (Amy Adams), Mrs. Kent (Diane Lane) and Perry White (Laurence Fishburne), it’s not out of the realm of possibility that somewhere amid this immense cast is a Star Sapphire.
