Thanos Originally Had A Bigger Part In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

During a press conference today in support of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige and Avengers director Joss Whedon addressed the connective tissue betweeen the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy corners of the universe.

When a reporter asked about the connections between films and which characters or concepts may have been back-burnered a bit in Phase Two to make sure they were where they needed to be for the second Avengers film, Feige and Whedon had a few examples.”

“As we were putting the other Phase 2 movies together, Joss very much liked the idea and we honed in on that for him that Hulk and Hawkeye would be two characters that hadn’t gotten very much exposure between the movies because he said he had very big plans for the two of them in this one,” Feige said. “The only thing I can think of is pulling Thanos out of Guardians of the Galaxy,” added Whedon. “That’s true,” admitted Feige. “There was going to be more Thanos, yeah.” “They needed to thread him in more gently,” Whedon concluded.

Of course, it’s no secret that Guardians director James Gunn felt the Thanos scene in the film was the hardest thing to shoot, so it’s likely there wasn’t a ton of resistance in playing him down a bit.

New Concept Art For GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY Reveal An Un-seen Character

Storyboard and concept artist Thomas Nelson has updated his website with artwork that he created for James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy.

What’s interesting about this is that there is storyboards of a scene that did not happen in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. You can see that Gamora is holding a blade to the neck of Drax.

There’s also concept art of Lord Tantalus, a character that did NOT appear in the film, but was originally in the script. “Tantalus was in for a while,” James Gunn told AMC Movie News. “If we’re fortunate enough to make another film in the future, there’s plenty of characters to bring in.” Welp, the first was a hit so there is a good shot that Tantalus can be included in the sequel.

“Although there is very little known about his past, it was believed that Lord Tantalus was an experiment of the rouge Dreaming Celestial. It is documented that he inspired the members of the original Deviant races to raise a “Holy War” against the baseline creatures of their homeworlds. His crusade eventually brought him to Tebel, where he was shocked to meet Nirvana, daughter of Khult, a Deviant woman who was immune to his Black Legacy. Tantalus made her his wife, and renamed his homeworld from Arqa to Armechadon.” – Marvel

James Gunn On Why ‘Baby Groot’ Didn’t Want To Get Caught By Drax

During his appearance on Doug Loves Movies, James Gunn reveals that there was a cut scene in Guardians of the Galaxy that would have made the Baby Groot-Drax end scene much clearer.“There was actually a scene that we cut from the movie where big Groot was dancing to ‘Livin’ Thing’ by ELO.” Drax wasn’t impressed, “And it wasn’t such an elaborate dance. It was more that he was just moving up and down like this, and Drax was dismissive and gave him this look like he was a loser when he did that.” This would explain why Drax gave Baby Groot the “death stare” once he thought he saw him move. Gunn then jokes that the first thing Drax the Destroyer would do if he was the Mayor of a town would be to outlaw dancing. “Dancing is ludicrous to Drax. I don’t think he understands it. If Drax owned a town, if he was a mayor, the first law would be no dancing.” He then continues, “But yeah, so at the end of the movie, little baby Groot didn’t want to get caught dancing, because he would kill him.” Luckily, Drax didn’t lose his temper at the “dance off” scene causing that whole plan to fail.

"Avengers: Age of Ultron" Behind the Scenes Clip Shows Off Extra Details And Tidbits

A new behind-the-scenes clip shows off extra new details for “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, thanks to the offical Guardians of the Galaxy facebook page.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/all.js#xfbml=1”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

This was posted to the Guardians of the Galaxy Facebook page, and focuses heavily (in its brief run) on the powers of the newest characters – Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor Johnson). We get footage of the two of them in action, as well as brief snippets of the rest of the team assembling. Captain America’s new suit is on display as he ducks for cover from an explosion. And we get what looks like the new version of the 360-spin around the team.

Here’s the latest iteration of the “Avengers: Age Of Ultron” trailer:

Next we need to wonder if there are more Avengers: Age of Ultron related clips on the Guardians of the Galaxy DVD, because this is a great opportunity for Marvel to tease the semi-conclusion of the studio’s Phase Two series. (Technically, Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man will conclude Phase Two, with Captain America: Civil War kick-starting the sure-to-be-explosive Phase Three on May 6, 2016.) Even if not, it will be well worth our time to grab James Gunn’s superhero ensemble comedy to play over and over again on our home theater systems. Guardians was such a smash, Marvel Studios already greenlit a sequel, and Gunn has been hard at work preparing the screenplay for his second trip through the universes. In fact, I’m also hoping that in the commentary track to the GOTG disc, Gunn drops more than a few hints about the possible direction of his Guardians sequel, because interest in that is almost as high as in Age of Ultron.

The Guardians disc is coming on Dec. 9. Avengers: Age of Ultron will be in theaters on May 1, 2015.

Nova Prime Will Not Be In "Guardians Of The Galaxy 2"

Minutes after Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was confirmed, the conversation shifted toward what new characters might join the fray. It was assumed that Peter Quill’s father – the mysterious role – would be developed. And eagle-eye Marvel fans combed the backgrounds of key scenes in The Collector’s lair to look for hints of Guardians characters who might be significant in the sequel. One such hero was Nova, but James Gunn’s now putting the kibosh on a possible appearance.
While promoting the DVD release of Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn admitted to MovieWeb that Nova will not be part of Guardians of the Galaxy 2, though he could be part of future installments. Gunn said…
“I don’t want Nova right now because I think Quill being the only earthling is important. That serves the entire moviegoing audience and not just the handful of Nova fans. Sorry if that upsets you. … I have nothing against Nova in future movies, but it doesn’t serve the movie right this moment.”
Nova, in Marvel history, was selected by a dying Rhomann Dey to lead the Nova Corps (introduced in Gunn’s movie) and battle such intergalactic forces as the Skrulls. He fights on his own, and also battles alongside the New Warriors. But the reason that many believed Nova would appear in Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is because there was a busted shell of a casing that was rumored to contain Nova… and was revealed to be split open when the Collector’s lab was blown up.
As Marvel continues to explore galaxies in the Phase Three portion of the studio’s landscape (and beyond), it’s easy to see how and why Nova needs to be integral to the larger stories being told. Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel will continue to expand the stories introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy, and Nova very easily could be introduced as a supporting character or component in one of those films. Because we already know all of the standalone movies that Marvel wants to do between now and 2020, and Nova isn’t on that list.
Guardians is one of those properties Marvel could continue to milk without having to tie it into what’s happening with The Avengers. And if there’s a third GOTG, then we can assume that Nova will appear there – if Gunn is still piloting that ship. We shall see.

Marvel Studios Event Announcements 2014

Today Marvel Studios have announced a bunch of upcoming movies and who will play the Black Panther.
The announcements come out from an event Marvel Studios had about a couple of minutes ago. They show us the direction that Kevin Feige and Co. are aiming towards in terms of story arcs and much much more. In other news they have announced the “42” actor Chadwick Boseman will take on the role of Black Panther, a superhero from the fictious country of Wakanda where Captain America gets his vibranium shield from. People will notice that The Hulk has not got his solo movie, Feige says that he much like Black Widow will only be in team up movies like Avengers and More.
The following gallery shows release dates for phase 3 and little bit beyond, plus Black Panther concept and our first look at the Infinity Gauntlet.

"Guardians Of The Galaxy 2" May Have Extra Characters

James Gunn has been speaking to Variety about his intentions for Guardians Of The Galaxy 2, with the director already sounding excited by the plans he has up his sleeve…

“It’s going to be a really surprising open. What happens is all the characters are killed in the first 10 minutes,” joked Gunn. “In really horribly, brutal fashion.”

He then went on to confirm that all five of the original Guardians would indeed be returning for round two, while revealing that there will also be some new team members along for the ride.

“I spent all day on 1 August, the day the first movie was released, writingGuardians 2,” continues Gunn. “I was so excited about it and I was finally able to let go of the last one and begin the second one. I always saw this as a universe, not just as one story.”

However, Gunn did confirm that despite his characters’ abilities to travel to far-flung galaxies, there will be no Star Warscrossover on the horizon. “Star Wars was a long time ago,” says Gunn. “It would have to be time travel.”

Guardians Of The Galaxy Passes $700 Million

Marvel’s surprise smash Guardians of the Galaxy has crossed $700 million at the global box office following a strong opening in China, according to box office estimates released by Disney, Marvel’s parent company.

Last weekend, Guardians of the Galaxy fell out of the top ten at U.S. box office for the first time since its release at the beginning of August.

While other movies that got off to bigger starts have better overall numbers, the film continues to find an audience and is doing better week to week at this point in its run than any other comic book movie in recent memory.

Year to date, Guardians of the Galaxy is currently ranked sixth at the worldwide box office with a total take of $705 million.
