Potential Roles For Helen Slater & Dean Cain In SUPERGIRL

Late last month, we learned that CBS’ Supergirl, which stars Melissa Benoist as the titular heroine, had cast Helen Slater (Supergirl) and Dean Cain (Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman) in mystery roles. Well, thanks to KryptonSite’s keen eye, we may have learned who the duo may be playing.

The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) has the pair listed as playing Fred & Sylvia Danvers, Kara’s foster parents.

It’d probably be wise to take this bit of news with a grain of salt for now as IMDb is not always the most reliable source, but it wouldn’t be surprising for the show to take this route especially after CW’s The Flash, another Greg Berlanti-run show, cast former Flash, John Wesley Shipp, as Barry Allen’s father Henry. We likely won’t get official word for a while, but if proven true, it’s likely we’ll see the pair in a recurring capacity, similar to Shipp on The Flash.

Both actors previously guest-starred on CW’s long-running Smallville, which starred Tom Welling as Clark Kent/Superman and Erica Durance as his lady love Lois Lane. Slater played Lara-El, Clark’s birth mother, and Cain played the villainous Dr. Curtis Knox.

The hourlong drama centers on Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin, who was born on the planet Krypton and escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she has been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

Helen Slater & Dean Cain Cast In SUPERGIRL

TV Line report that both Helen Slater and Dean Cain have been added to the cast of the CBS’ Supergirl pilot in roles that shall remain a mystery. Both actors previously popped up in the CW’s Smallville, where Slater played Clark/Kal-El’s Kryptonian mom Lara, and Cain appeared as the Dr. Curtis Knox). There’s a good chance they’ll both be playing established DC characters again, but for now we can only speculate about that.

So far the cast of Supergirl also includes Laura Benanti as Alura Zor-El, Chyler Leigh as Kara’s foster sister Alex, David Harewood as Hank Henshaw, Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, and of course Melissa Benoist as the titular superheroine.
