Maze Runner: Death Cure Set for 2017 Release, Not Split in Two

Even though the sequel Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials doesn’t arrive until this fall, that’s not stopping 20th Century Fox from setting a release date for the third and final chapter in the young adult sci-fi trilogy. ERC Box Office reports the studio has just set Maze Runner: The Death Cure for release on February 17th, 2017, which is a departure from the fall release window of the previous two films.

And the good news, for fans who don’t like their final chapter cut up like Harry Potter, The Twilight Saga and The Hunger Games before this, The Death Cure will not be split in two. Since the second film hasn’t been released yet, we don’t want to say what the third will be about, but you can find out if you really want to.
Maze Runner: Scorch Trials is directed by Wes Ball and written by T.S. Nowlin, both returning from The Maze Runner. Based on James Dashner’s best-selling book series, the sequel finds Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and the other Gladers (Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster and more) as they have escaped the maze, find new groups of survivors in the outside world including Giancarlo Esposito, Rosa Salazar, Barry Pepper and Aidan Gillen, and encounter new threats beyond the maze. Patricia Clarkson and Lily Taylor also star in the film which 20th Century Fox will release early this fall in 3D, 2D and IMAX on September 18th.

Dylan O’Brien Hasn’t Heard Anything About SPIDER-MAN

Dylan O’Brien (The Maze Runner) is by far the fan favorite to play Peter Parker in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, but is he acually up for the part? Based on this new interview conducted at PaleyFest, it doesn’t seem like it.

After chatting a bit about his hit TV show, Teen Wolf, the topic quickly shifts to Spider-Man when the reporter asks him a few hypothetical questions starting with whether he’d be able to make his Teen Wolf shooting schedule work with being cast as the famous wall-crawler. He answers with a “probably not,” before going on to say how he hasn’t even heard about the Spidey job outside of being asked about it in countless interviews.

Skip ahead to the 0:45 second mark to hear his comments:

Ever since Marvel Studios/Sony Pictures announced their plans to share Spider-Man, rumors about the wall-crawler’s casting have circulated far and wide. Some reports say he’s going to be a teenager, some reports say he’ll be a different race, some say it’ll either be Logan Lerman or Dylan O’Brien, and there have even been a few claiming Tobey Maguire is coming back, so It’s a little hard to say what fans should believe.

Based on this interview, it looks like Marvel hasn’t contacted O’Brien yet. Could this mean he was never being considered? Or has Marvel simply not begun casting yet? Captain America: Civil War is still a ways away, so it’s completely fathomable that all the Spidey casting murmers were a bit premature. Or could this all be an elaborate ruse and he’s just playing coy a la Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) & Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange)?

Dylan O’Brien Talks SPIDER-MAN Rumours

Not too long after Marvel and Sony had announced their new plans for Spider-Man, which entail an all-but-confirmed appearance in Captain America: Civil War before a Spectacular standalone movie, the only two names mentioned for the Peter Parker role were Percy Jackson’s Logan Lerman and The Maze Runner star Dylan O’Brien. Well, now the latter young actor has finally addressed those reports that he’s under consideration for coveted part.

“Professionally, I haven’t heard anything about it,” O’Brien told Buzzfeed today while on the set of MTV’s Teen Wolf. “I’ve only heard from, like, [rumors] online. It feels so weird to say,” he said, laughing, about not knowing where the rumor originated. “It’s so funny. My friends from New Jersey are calling me. They’re like, what are you not telling me, dude?! Spider-Man?! It makes me feel bad because I’m, like, disappointing a big chunk of fans across the nation. You can tell them that it’s not true.” Even though the rumor isn’t true, that certainly doens’t mean Dylan O’Brien wouldn’t be interested in playing the Webslinger on the big-screen. “It’s nothing but flattering,” he said. “It’s never something I would want to get myself excited about, since I know I haven’t heard about it from a professional standpoint,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to play Peter Parker, obviously. I feel like any actor my age, that’s, like, a big thing. And my name being tossed with Logan Lerman’s is the coolest thing ever, too. I just think that kid is [frick]ing fantastic.” He continued, laughing, “It’s really just, you know, I guess I’ll see if I even hear about it? But thank you, internet, for giving me false hope!”

Josh Hutcherson Talks Possible SPIDER-MAN Role

Now just three weeks later after the news broke out of good ole Spider-Man swinging into the MCU, many have wondered who would play the web-slinger. In many conversations there was two candiates Dylan O’Brien and Logan Lerman. But now Hunger Games actor Josh Hutcherson has chimed in. “Yeah, of course I’d think about doing it,” Hucherson told Yahoo! last week. “It’s Spider-Man, that’d be really cool. There’s not been any conversations about that, but who knows what would happen.” While previously in contention, the 22-year-old had admitted that even though he wasn’t much of a comic book reader, he did grow up watching Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man movies. And beyond expressing interest in countless other interviews, Hutcherson went all out for his Amazing Spider-Man audition tape, which was released online and can be seen below. Therefore, it’s no huge surprise that he’s still open to the big commitment. However, there are only two actors who have been mentioned for the role, which will likely debut in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War (May 6, 2016) before the standalone movie (July 28, 2017): Logan Lerman and Dylan O’Brien, both of whom had also expressed interest in Spidey years ago.
