James Cameron Updates AVATAR Sequels!

Titanic Live kicked off its tour with a sold-out event at the Royal Albert Hall last night, attended by composer James Horner, producer Jon Landau and director James Cameron. The score was played by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra with a 40 piece choir, conducted by Ludwig Wicki.

This morning we spoke to producer Jon Landau and composer James Horner about the endurance of Titanic and the forthcoming Avatar films.

As well as his work on James Cameron’s 1997 epic our conversation with Horner drifted to the world of Pandora, and how his work on the forthcoming Avatar sequels is coming along.

Recently the production of the next Avatar films was pushed back until 2017, and reports singled out Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver, and Shane Salerno as writing Avatars 2, 3 and 4 respectively.

The updates we received from Horner and Landau is that James Cameron has completed scripts for a further four Avatar films and is currently working on condensing them to fit the original plan of three sequels.

He’s got four sequels script-wise, and he’s trying to make it into three. And I think that’s where the effort is going right now […] how do you keep it from expanding into a fifth movie?

Here’s the video (full interview below)

In January of this year Cameron told AP,

There’s a layer of complexity in getting the story to work as a saga across three films that you don’t get when you’re making a stand-alone film,
We’re writing three simultaneously. And we’ve done that so that everything tracks throughout the three films. We’re not just going to do one and then make up another one and another one after that.

So far we know that Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang are set to return, the latter duo being killed off in the first film. There was considerable surprise that Cameron was looking to take us back to Pandora for another three films. Are we looking at a potential fifth film?

We also talked about working with Cameron, and his particular musical preferences for the world of Avatar. We also asked Horner if there was a chance that we might follow our characters back to Earth, he neither confirms, nor denies…

SIX BILLION DOLLAR MAN Gets Oscar-Nominated Filmmaker as Writer

Damian Szifron, the filmmaker who nabbed a best foreign-language film Oscar nomination for Wild Tales, has been tapped to pen the screenplay for Six Billion Dollar Man.

Mark Wahlberg is attached to star in and Pete Berg attached to direct the updated version of the The Six Million Dollar Man, the 1970s TV series which in turn was based on the Martin Caidin novel Cyborg.

Billion Dollar Man again focuses on Steve Austin, this time a military officer instead of a test pilot, as he was in the TV series, who suffers a horrible accident only to be saved by cutting-edge technology. This technology makes him half machine and gives him incredible strength and speed.

“The themes surrounding this beloved property allow for the creation of a memorable sci-fi actioner as well as a bold spy thriller,” said Szifron in a statement. “Expectations are high and I’ll do my best to deliver the strongest basis for an amazing cinematic experience.”

Szifron is an Argentinean filmmaker who wrote and directed last year’s Wild Tales, an anthology that told six dramatic stories. It received a best foreign-language film Oscar nomination while sweeping Argentina’s version of the Academy Awards, netting 10 wins out of 21 total nominations.

Robert Downey Jr Approves Of Russo Brothers Directing CIVIL WAR And AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

Now that Anthony & Joe Russo are set to helm both Avengers: Infinity War – Part I and Part II, Robert Downey Jr. recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about Avengers: Age of Ultron writer/direct Joss Whedon leaving the blockbuster franchise.“I wasn’t surprised because there was so much onus on can Ultron be as good as Avengers Assemble?” said Downey. “I just think it takes so much out of the men and women who are behind the major workload that occurs over a 24-month period, at best, to get one of these movies done. It’s backbreaking.”

With Joe and Anthony Russo set to take over for the two Avengers: Infinity War films (and also direct Downey in next year’s Captain America: Civil War), we asked the star what it is like to have his character now be directed by so many different people (Whedon, Jon Favreau, Shane Black, and now the Russos): “Its different every time,” replied Downey. “I’m also a very kind of loyal person so sometimes there’s a new face and I’m like ‘Wait a minute.’ But the interesting thing is I’ve worked with Jon twice, I’ve worked with Joss twice, and I worked with Shane Black once—and I’d happily do it with any of those three folks again.”

As for the future, Downey has confidence the franchise will keep humming along with the Russos. “I really think the Russo Brothers are super sharp and I think they are worthy stewards of carrying it forward.” There you have it: Iron Man approved!

Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Civil War is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. With an all-star cast that includes Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Frank Grillo (Crossbones), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), and Daniel Brühl (Baron Zemo), along with unconfirmed appearances by Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Paul Bettany (Vision), and Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), the highly-anticipated film is scheduled to open in theaters on  May 6, 2016.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron will be in theaters May 1, 2015; Ant-Man on July 17, 2015; Captain America: Civil War – May 6, 2016; Doctor Strange – November 4, 2016; Guardians of the Galaxy 2 – May 5, 2017; Spider-Man reboot – July 28, 2017; Thor: Ragnarok – November 3, 2017; The Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 – May 4, 2018; Black Panther – July 6, 2018; Captain Marvel – November 2, 2018; The Avengers: Infinity War Part 2 – May 3, 2019; Inhumans – July 12, 2019.

New NSFW Trailer For TED 2

Universal Pictures has released a new Ted 2 red-band trailer for director Seth MacFarlane’s upcoming comedy sequel. The film finds Mark Wahlberg reprising his role as a man whose best friend is a living, talking, foul-mouthed teddy bear (MacFarlane), only this time around Ted is fighting for equal rights in the eyes of the law when he wants to have children with his new bride.

This trailer doesn’t delve any deeper into the story than the previous teaser did, but it’s significantly funnier. As with the first film (and Family Guy, for that matter), the jokes have less to do with the story and more to do with riffing on pop culture trends and cliches; there’s a Law & Order gag that’s particularly laugh-inducing. That being said, a simple series of jokes doesn’t necessarily translate into a satisfying viewing experience, and with Mila Kunis‘ character not returning for the follow-up, I’m curious to see where the central emotional conflict of the story lies.

Check out the new Ted 2 red-band trailer below, along with a new poster, via Universal. The film also stars Amanda Seyfried, Liam Neeson, Giovanni Ribisi, John Slattery, and Morgan Freeman.  Ted 2 opens in theaters on June 26th.

Seth MacFarlane returns as writer, director and voice star of Ted 2, Universal and Media Rights Capital’s follow-up to the highest-grossing original R-rated comedy of all time.  Joined once again by star Mark Wahlberg and fellow Ted writers Alec Sulkin & Wellesley Wild, MacFarlane produces the live action/CG-animated comedy alongside Bluegrass Films’ Scott Stuber, as well as John Jacobs and Jason Clark.

Cast And Kinberg Talk FANTASTIC FOUR; Mr. Fantastic Will Stretch!

So, when can we expect Invisible Woman and The Thing’s first date then? Actually it turns out Jamie Bell is just joking about after being asked what we might get from any potential future story-lines. In fact, the foursome spend pretty much the entire interview taking the piss — but a few interesting tidbits also slip through.

REED RICHARDS IS A SCIENTIFIC PRODIGY WHO HAS BEEN QUIETLY EXPLORING THE UNIVERSE’S DEEPEST MYSTERIES IN HIS GARAGE, AFTER SCHOOL. AFTER BEING TRANSFORMED BY ONE OF HIS EXPERIMENTS, HE CAN WARP THE SPACE AROUND HIM, AND APPEAR TO STRETCH HIS BODY INTO IMPOSSIBLE FORMS AND TO INCREDIBLE LENGTHS.

It was all just a clever way of trying to explain Mister Fantastic’s (Miles Teller) powers that was a little too complicated.

Speaking to HitFix, Fantastic Four screenwriter Simon Kinberg set the record straight.   “I think it was confusing.  I was a little confused by it myself. The intent was to try to explain the power with some sort of scientific explanation, but as you pointed out, most of his powers defy what we know about physics. The upshot of it is that he stretches in his movie. That is his power. That’s the simplest explanation.”

As far as the J.J. Abrams-type of secrecy surrounding the project is concerned, Kinberg stated it’s really just a byproduct of trying to make sure things are perfect, visually, before they’re released.  “This thing here, it really has been a concerted thing because we really just don’t want to show anything until it’s ready, until it looks great, and they show the real intention of the shot or the movie, then we’ll show it. That’s why we’ve held on to so much. We held on to the Thing. We held on to Doom. We held on until we were further along.”

In reality, it should have been obvious that Reed will stretch in the film.  Hell, there was a stretching scene in the most recent trailer.  However, “the internet” turned a blind-eye to this fact and simply wanted to cause a bit of controversy.  Kinberg also points out that as the promotions for the film ramp up, information and marketing assetts will be released from many different sources that’s nearly impossible to keep under the supervision of a single voice.

FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

Directed by Josh Trank, The Fantastic Four reboot stars Miles Teller as Mr. Fantastic, Michael B. Jordan as the Human Torch, Kate Mara as Invisible Woman, and Jamie Bell as the Thing. The film is scheduled for release on August 7, 2015.

First BTS TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 2 Show Stephen Amell, Blonde? Megan Fox, And More!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 have officially started filming, and what better to kick off production than seeing some brand new set photos featuring Arrow’s Stephen Amell as Casey Jones and Megan Fox who respires her role as April O’Neil from the first film in the franchise! Even though the set photos doesn’t reveal Stephen Amell suited up, it does give us something to speculate!

Tyler Perry (Gone Girl) and Megan Fox (Transformers) were on hand.

Perry is playing mad scientist Baxter Stockman. Below, is our first look at him in costume. You can see him wearing a bow tie, which is something the character is known for wearing in previous iterations. The character is also known for joining forces with Shredder; creating mutant hunting robots called Mousers and transforming into a mutant fly. How much of that will be used in the film is anyone’s guess.

Megan Fox was back on set, but this time her character April O’Neil was spotted wearing a blonde wig. I’m guessing April has the platinum locks so that the Channel 6 News reporter can go undercover.

Click on the images in the tweet below to enlarge.

Also, a Buffalo news station reports that equipment is being brought in as filming will be taking place there soon. Check out the video below to find out if the new Turtle van will make an appearance.

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2″ will hit theaters on June 3, 2016 and stars Megan Fox (April O’Neil), Will Arnett (Vern Fenwick), Stephen Amell (Casey Jones), Brian Tee (Shredder) and Tyler Perry (Baxter Stockman) in the Paramount sequel. Michael Bay will once again produce with his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. David Green is set to direct from a script by Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec.
