Jon Bernthal Joins MARVEL’S DAREDEVIL Season 2 As THE PUNISHER!

Jon Benthal of The Wolf of Wall Street, Fury, and The Walking Dead fame has been cast for Marvel’s Daredevil season 2, coming 2016!

He will be playing none other than Frank Castle, yeah, The fricking Punisher! He is a vigilante who aims to clean up New York City’s Hell’s Kitchen by any means necessary, no matter how lethal the results!

“Jon Bernthal brings an unmatched intensity to every role he takes on, with a potent blend of power, motivation and vulnerability that will connect with audiences,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s Head of Television. “Castle’s appearance will bring dramatic changes to the world of Matt Murdock and nothing will be the same.”

Bernthal will also appear in the upcoming action thriller “The Accountant.”

“Marvel’s Daredevil” is Executive Produced by Doug Petrie (“American Horror Story,” “Buffy The Vampire Slayer”), Marco Ramirez (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “DaVinci’s Demons”) and Drew Goddard (“Cabin in the Woods,” “Lost”), along with Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Marvel’s Jessica Jones.”)

“Marvel’s Daredevil” is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios. Season one of “Marvel’s Daredevil” is now streaming on Netflix.

Extra Tidbit:
The scary part is this look at the date!

Another tidbit is Netflix has revealed a new logo for Marvel’s Daredevil season 2.

The new Daredevil logo is riddled with bullet holes, and came attached to the twitter message, “Frank Castle is coming to Hell’s Kitchen. Those who stand in his way shall be punished.”

Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the Super Hero “Daredevil” in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. “Marvel’s Daredevil” stars Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson and Rosario Dawson.

Charlie Cox Talks DAREDEVIL Season Two Hopes And Adding The Logo To The Suit

http://widgets.ign.com/video/embed/content.html?url=http://www.ign.com/videos/2015/05/05/what-charlie-cox-wants-from-season-2-of-daredevil
When Daredevil was renewed for a second season, it was revealed that Steven S. DeKnight would not be returning to serve as showrunner. Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez have been confirmed to take over, and Charlie Cox had this to say when asked about the behind the scenes changes in a recent interview with IGN. “The show has had such a great response that I imagine we’ll be wanting to stick in that world and tonally feel we’re in the same universe. It’s very hard to know – when you’ve got a writer’s room and a showrunner it’s very hard to know who’s influencing the dialogue. Who’s influencing the structure of the scripts, the tone of it. I imagine it’s very much a collaborative process.”

“I think in our show we’re more likely to see the likes of Bullseye, The Punisher and Elektra,” Cox added when talk turned to which direction he hopes to see the second season of Daredevil head in. “I don’t know if any of those characters will appear, and also I don’t know what’s going to happen with Wilson Fisk. He’s certainly not out of the picture. Hopefully he’ll come back.” Now, what about that red suit? While the small screen version of the Man Without Fear’s classic costume has been well-received by fans, it was missing one key element. “As people who have seen the show will know, we do get to the more recognisable classic red suit by the end of the series. But at this point we don’t have the ‘DD’ on the chest so maybe that’s something that will evolve with this suit as we go further along the line. Maybe he’ll decide to get that printed on!”

MARVEL MADNESS #4: ANT-MAN Poster, CIVIL WAR Art, Joss Revealing All, AND MORE!!

Well will you look at that it is another Wednesday which means another Marvel Madness! This week’s edition we have an Ant-Man poster, Civil War promo art, Joss revealing all, Ruffalo talking HULK, Spider-Man directors?, and much much more!

By way of a thank you for making Avengers: Age Of Ultron a “global event”, Marvel has released a new theatrical poster for their next movie, Ant-Man. This international one-sheet features Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) surrounded by friend and foe alike.

In “Ant-Man,” Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) approaches master thief Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) with a suit that grants him the ability to shrink in size but increases his strength! Scott must embrace his inner hero and put the suit to good use and save the world under Pym’s leadership.

Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, Evangeline Lilly, David Dastmalchian, Michael Pena, Bobby Cannavale, Abby Ryder Fortson, Judy Greer, Wood Harris John Slattery and Gregg Turkington. The film opens July 17, 2015

Umberto Gonzales has given us our first promo art for the upcoming Marvel movie, Captain America: Civil War, and as you can see, Steve’s suit hasn’t been changed all that much from Avengers: Age of Ultron, but it does have quite a bit more red and maybe a slightly more armoured look. He’s going to need that extra protection too, especially as Iron Man appears to be in a version of the “Bleeding Edge” armour from the comic books. The circular arc reactor Joss Whedon was so fond of also appears to be gone, while the helmet gives off something of an Ultimate vibe

Also speaking to MTV, Chris Evans stopped short of calling Captain America: Civil War an Avengers film. Instead, he revealed that Civil War is more of a “setup man” for Avengers: Infinity War. Said Evans, “Captain America: Civil War is the jumpoff into Avengers: The Infinity War. Civil War is going to be the setup for the real battle. So yeah, there are a lot of people – a lot of people in Cap 3.”
Watch the video above to see the rest of the Age of Ultron cast discuss appearing in Civil War and coyly tease where their allegiances may lie between Captain America and Iron Man.
Captain America: Civil War is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, and confirmed cast members include: Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier, Daniel Brühl as Baron Zemo, Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow / Crossbones, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson / Falcon, and Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa / Black Panther. The film is set for release on May 6, 2016.

Age of Ultron Spoilers Incoming*

CinemaBlend asked him if Aaron Taylor-Johnson took the role of Quicksilver because he knew that it would be a one-and-done part, that he wouldn’t be locked into a lengthy Marvel contract, like other actors. And according to Aaron Taylor-Johnson, that wasn’t the case, at all. The actor told me during our exclusive interview:

No, because… I still feel like, you know, they were the best. I mean, I thoroughly enjoyed working on [this movie], and would love to do, I would love to being doing more movies with the guys at Marvel. Maybe there will be some case where that might happen. Again, I’m not sure, but…”

At that point, I pointed out that no one really dies in the MCU. Nick Fury and Special Agent Phil Coulson both “died” on screen, but found ways to return. Elaborating on that, Aaron Taylor-Johnson admitted to me:

I’d love to find what that loophole is, because I think they’re the best guys I’ve worked with in a long time, and yeah, you know, it’s cool.”

While talking with Empire Magazine, Avengers: Age of Ultron writer/director Joss Whedon talked about the shocking death in the movie, the new line-up at the end, what part Loki would have played in the film, his hopes of having Captain Marvel and Spider-Man in the film, and the Hulk in space rumors.
Here’s some of the things he talked about but check out the podcast down below!
Whedon revealed that there were never any real plans to send the Hulk to space, and that there are still no plans for a Planet Hulk movie, at least not that he knows of.

“You know, I never intended to shoot him into space. What I wanted to do was indicate that he might. I wanted the sky above him to be slightly thinner. A few stars. Because, you know, I put in, very specifically, the line, ‘Where in the world am I not a threat?’ And I wanted to leave people with the idea that, if this is the last movie, that he may have left the world behind, because I think there is something enormously poetic about that. There is also something enormously misleading about that, because they don’t plan to make Planet Hulk, as far as I know, so they were like, ‘No, just sky, no stars,’ which was less poetic, but still very beautiful.”

One of the weirder digressions in Avengers: Age of Ultron has Thor seeking answers to questions that crop up in a nightmare sequence. It feels tacked on, almost as if it were part of a much longer storyline that was whittled down into near-incoherence. As it turns out, that’s exactly what it is.
Director Joss Whedon reveals what we’re missing in the final cut of the movie, and with that added context, it makes much more sense.
Whedon explains what was supposed to happen.

There was a 195-minute cut of this movie. The original scene was that Thor went to speak to the Norn and how it would work was that he’d go in the pool and the Norn possess him, basically, and Erik Selvig asks all the questions, and the Norn, speaking through Thor, give the answers. So Chris [Hemsworth] got to do something different, and he really threw himself into it, and he did a beautiful job, but it wasn’t well regarded by the test audiences and I feel it’s probably largely because it was a rough cut with no effects, but also because it’s something that in a Thor movie would work brilliantly, but in this movie is just a little too left of centre.

The Norn are, essentially, goddesses of destiny within the Marvel universe. I’m betting one of them is the mystery woman in the cave who was spotted in early trailers for Avengers: Age of Ultron, but got cut before the film hit theaters.
Whedon admitted that integrating Thor into Avengers: Age of Ultron was a challenge, but thought the subplot he finally came up with was “a huge win.” Unfortunately, the execs didn’t seem to agree:

The dreams were not an executive favorite. The dreams, the farmhouse, these were things I fought [for]. With the cave, they pointed a gun at the farm’s head and ‘Give us the cave’. They got the farm. In a civilized way – I respect these guys, but that’s when it got really unpleasant. There was a point when there was going to be no cave, and Thor was going to leave and come back and say, ‘I figured some stuff out.’ And at that point I was so beaten down, I was like, ‘Sure, okay… what movie is this?’ The editors were like, ‘No no, you have to show the thing, you just can’t say it.’ I was like, ‘Okay, thank you, we can figure this out!’ You can tell it was beaten down, but it was hard won.

In his latest round of Avengers: Age of Ultron post-premiere interviews, director Joss Whedon has revealed that he filmed an ending with a very different outcome. And for anyone who’s seen the film can probably guess, that outcome involves a living and breathing Quicksilver, who perished in the film’s final act.
Whedon revealed to the Empire Film Podcast that he fully intends for Quicksilver to stay dead:

It felt very disingenuous for me, especially the second time around, to make what I refer to as ‘a war movie’ and say that there is no price and everybody walks away. In this movie, we’re saying, ‘Prove to me that you guys are heroes.’ And he’s the guy that does it.
I knew it would be resonant, and make everything else work better and matter more. The city in the air, that’s just an explosion – Wanda’s grief, that’s extraordinary.

It’s not ultimately up to Whedon, though, and he’s well aware of that fact. In fact, he planned for the possibility that he would be overruled.

I said to Aaron, ‘The only way you’ll stay alive is if the Disney executives say, “Hey idiot, this is a franchise, and we need all these people and you’re not allowed to kill them off!”
We did actually shoot him in the last scene, in an outfit, with his sister. We also shot him, waking up, saying, ‘Ah, I didn’t really die from these 47 bullet wounds!’

*End of Spoilers

Whedon addressed the Avengers Age of Ultron Spider-Man rumors. Speaking about the Avengers lineup at the end of the movie, he revealed:

I wanted all those people. I said, it would be great if we could just add a few more, if we could have a Captain Marvel there, that you’ve made a deal for. And they talked about it. I was like, ‘And Spider-Man, we could do that too, cause Sony had approached us during the first movie about a little integration.
So I would have put both of them in, but neither of the deals were made. And then they were like, ‘We’re making a Captain Marvel movie and we’ve got Spider-Man as a property,’ and I’m like, ‘I’ve already locked my film, you fuckers! Thanks for nothing.’

Here’s the podcast to listen to your heart’s content:

Collider had a chat with the HULK himself, Mark Ruffalo, they talked about Avengers: Age of Ultron, his movie contract with Marvel, Hulk’s involvement in Captain America: Civil War, and more!

Mark Ruffalo:

Discusses worst job before acting and his old boss.
[01:31–5:00]: Talks about most memorable moment on the set of Avengers: Age of Ultron, his movie contract with Marvel, Hulk’s involvement in Captain America: Civil War, and why we haven’t seen a new standalone Hulk film.
[5:01–9:10]: Discusses the future of Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in regards to the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron and beyond, his discussions with Joss Whedon, and twists in the film.
[9:11–11:00]: Talks about deleted scenes in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and teases Now You See Me 2.

If you saw AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, and the box office returns indicate you probably did, you likely noticed multiple scenes in the film that address the potential casualties as a result of Ultron’s actions as well as those of the Avengers themselves. This is a stark contrast to the events in both MAN OF STEEL and THE AVENGERS, two films criticized in different ways for the way they tackled the civilian body count in their respective scenes of city-wide destruction.
In an interview with Vulture, director Joss Whedon responded to why they felt it was necessary to represent the carnage responsibly.

“Absolutely, yes. Something that Kevin and I talked about from the start was that we’d seen a little bit of a trend in movies where the city gets destroyed and the heroes say, ‘We won!’ And I’m thinking, Define ‘win.’ [AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON] gets back to what’s important, which is that the people you’re trying to protect are people. We knew that we wanted to play with a lot of big, fun destruction, but at the same time, we wanted to say, ‘There’s a price for this.’ So we got very specific about it, because whether the Avengers are heroes or not is called into question in this movie, or whether the hero as a concept is still useful for society. It sort of becomes the central issue in the final battle, and it’s also a good way for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes to be put at a disadvantage.”

During an appearance on the Conan show on Monday night, Jeremy Renner opened up about the trouble that he got into for calling Black Widow a slut.

“It was a joke, off-colored, whatever, but yeah, I’m unapologetic about a lot of things,” said Renner. “But yeah, I got in a lot of Internet trouble. I guess that’s a thing now.”

Renner added, “I was asked the question like, so Black Widow’s been linked to Hawkeye, Iron Man, Bruce Banner, and Captain America, so what do you think about that. Well, I said, ‘It sounds like she’s a slut.’ Now, mind you, I was talking about a fictional character and fictional behavior, but Conan if you slept with four of the six Avengers, no matter how much fun you had, you’d be a slut.”

Collider recently spoke with Hardy, and touched on superhero movies with the actor. Hardy was set to star in the supervillain team-up film Suicide Squad, but had to drop out. Nevertheless, he still wants to do a comic book movie, and at the top of his list is The Punisher:

Collider: I heard Warner Bros. has a few more superhero movies, maybe one or two that they’re developing [Laughs].

HARDY: I want The Punisher… I want The Punisher, or Splinter Cell, I want something…I don’t know what I want.

You as Punisher could be very interesting.

HARDY: I’m not big enough to be The Punisher, I’m 5’9” [Laughs].

But I actually think that adds to the character.

HARDY: Frank Castle, I would love it. Is that him, isn’t it?

Yeah. It’s Frank Castle.

In the following interview with MTV News, Daredevil star Charlie Cox reveals which specific comic book storyline featuring a team-up between the Man Without Fear and Spider-Man he’s particularly fond of, as well as his desire to make that a reality on the big or small screen.

The British actor also comments on his character’s role in the likes of Civil War and the New Avengers, and seems hopeful that he will end up becoming part of one of those in Marvel’s Phase 3 slate. Cox also expresses disappointment that real-life friend Andrew Garfield is no longer Spidey.

Deadline are reporting that Marvel Studios have narrowed their search for the director of the Untitled MCU Spider-Man. They sat that these are in contention for the director’s chair: 50/50 and Warm Bodies writer/helmer Jonathan Levine; Ted Melfi, writer/director of Golden Globe-nommed St. Vincent; Pitch Perfect helmer Jason Moore; John Francis Daley & Jonathan M. Goldstein, the directors/writers of the updated version of John Hughes’ Vacation; and Napoleon Dynamite and Don Verdean writer/director Jared Hess.

Deadline also gives us a possible plot-line for the movie itself saying that Kevin Feige and his producing accomplice Amy Pascal are planning an arc that will tell the Spidey story over three to four movies, each covering a year of high school for Peter Parker, who’ll already have been bitten by the radioactive spider so we don’t have to see that all over again.

Charlie Cox Talks DAREDEVIL’S Future, Season 2, Movies, And More!

According to series star Charlie Cox, he’s contractually obligated to head over to the Marvel movieverse if they decide they want him there.

“It’d be great,” Cox told Close-Up Film when asked about the possibility of crossing over with other shows and films. “I’ve read Civil War now, I’ve read The New Avengers, I know he’s in there but I think I missed the boat on Civil War because they’re filming that. I don’t know, Marvel have not mentioned that to me at all. It’s in my contract that if they want me to do it, I’m there, and I would love that. That would be an extension of the dream, but I’m a pretty happy customer at this point, to get to do the series again. And I get to do The Defenders at some point.”

Recently Collider landed an exclusive video interview with Charlie Cox (Daredevil). He talked about the experience of getting cast, making the show with limited pre-production time, if Daredevil could appear in the Marvel films and the exciting possibility of teaming up with Spider-Man, if he noticed the Marvel Easter eggs as they were filming, if there any Daredevil storylines he wants to do in season 2 (which just got ordered), and a lot more.

Empire Online recently caught up with Charlie Cox and asked the British actor if he knows anything about what’s to come in the recently announced second season of Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil. As you might imagine, he wasn’t willing to give away too much, but did have this to say about what – and more importantly who – he hopes to see. “Based on the show we’ve created, which is very grounded in reality, I’d like to see Punisher maybe show up, a little bit of Elektra maybe. I wouldn’t mind Black Widow making an appearance, and you can’t think about Daredevil for too long without thinking of Bullseye. I don’t know when or if or how that would happen, but it’d be cool if it did.” That’s a lot of great characters, and all but Black Widow are probably very real possibilities. After all, Scarlett Johansson’s contract doesn’t extend to the small screen, and the budget conscious Marvel might not be keen on paying her for a cameo in the Netflix series!

Regardless, Cox then went on to reveal when the second season of Daredevil will start shooting and how he believes the return of the show will impact plans for the other solo series’ and The Defenders. “We’ll begin shooting in the second half of the year. It’ll be the same timeline as the last show, so season two will come out about this time next year. Again, I’m imagining all this, but there’ll probably do Iron Fist or Luke Cage at the same time, followed by the other one [of the two] in the first half of 2016 and then maybe Defenders in the second half of 2016 or the beginning of 2017.” Rumour has it that Daredevil and his fellow street level heroes will appear in Avengers: Infinity War, so the next few years are looking very busy indeed for Charlie Cox.

We’ve already heard from Charlie Cox on all things Daredevil, but in this latest interview with HeyUGuys the former Boardwalk Empire actor explains how he found out the acclaimed show had been renewed for a second season. He’s also asked one again about the rumored plans to have the character join the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the Avengers: Infinity War movies, and still claims to know nothing about it… but, he does reveal that he’s contacted to appear should the studio decide to use him.

http://widgets.ign.com/video/embed/content.html?url=http://www.ign.com/videos/2015/04/24/charlie-cox-wants-daredevil-to-cameo-in-captain-america-civil-war-ign-news
The original plans for Marvel’s TV shows on Netflix was that they would each receive a single season before being teamed up for The Defenders. However, the overwhelmingly positive response to Daredevil resulted in The Man Without Fear getting a second season next year, and fans are already making it clear that they want to see his take on Matt Murdock on the big screen. Will it happen in Captain America: Civil War? “Well he’s in the comics, but I think they’re already… I think I might have missed that boat…” Cox admits. “So unless someone watches the show and falls so madly in love with it that they decide to get me in for a day, that would be great, but I have no idea.” Of course, it was actually Iron Fist in the Civil War comic book, but that was explained in the character’s solo title as a retcon of sorts because Matt was supposed to be in jail at the time the event took place. As of right now, the chances of a cameo do seem slim.
Not to worry though as rumour has it that Daredevil and his fellow Defenders will all appear in Avengers: Infinity War! Cox meanwhile also told IGN that he’s very keen on giving the character his own solo outing somewhere down the line. “Yeah that would be awesome – I’d love to do that. I love doing the TV show and I love that we have so much more time to explore the origin story and real deal with character and inner conflict, and spend a lot of time brooding in that world and those feelings, which is unusual for a superhero. And usually when you’ve got a two-hour movie it’s action-packed, and so I think that’s one of the things that the show has really benefitted from – having that extra time to really get to know and sit with these characters and see them as humans. But I’d love to see Daredevil on the big screen again. It would be great. And if I could be involved with that I’d be thrilled.”
With the first season of “Marvel’s Daredevil” proving a smash success with both audiences and critics, Netflix and Marvel will continue to create further adventures of the Man Without Fear! Doug Petrie (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “American Horror Story”) and Marco Ramirez (“Sons of Anarchy”), who worked closely with Executive Producers Steven S. DeKnight and Drew Goddard during the first season, will serve as showrunners for Season 2. Petrie, Ramirez, Goddard (“Cabin in the Woods”), and Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”) will serve as Executive Producers of Season 2.

“While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season,” DeKnight explains, “I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can’t wait to see what they do with the show moving forward.”

First Look At DAREDEVIL’S Red Suit?

Ever since Marvel announced a Netflix series based on their recently reacquired property Daredevil, almost every fan has eagerly been awaiting the moment they reveal the Man Without Fear’s iconic red suit and now thanks to quick techincal slip-up, we may have just received that look, albeit in a very low-resolution.

It’s easy to assume that the photo is fan-art, and it still might be, but the image apparently comes directly from Netflix’s servers and was quickly taken down after being posted on reddit earlier tonight. Also, it’s worth noting that the buildings behind the titular hero are considerably different when compared to the scenery on the two posters of Murdock we’ve already seen.

But until Marvel or Netflix makes an official announcement, it’s still unclear whether or not this is legitimate, but as of right now, it looks like it is in fact REAL. It also seems as though the new poster may be region-blocked and/or you may need to be subscribed to Netflix’s DVD service, as a few users have been able to spot it on their Netflix accounts while many others haven’t. Check out the thumbnails below to view new photos that more or less prove the poster’s authenticity.

“Marvel’s Daredevil” is a live action series that follows the journey of attorney Matt Murdock, who in a tragic accident was blinded as a boy but imbued with extraordinary senses. Murdock sets up practice in his old neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, New York where he now fights against injustice as a respected lawyer by day and masked vigilante at night. Daredevil goes live on Netflix April 10

DAREDEVIL’S Charlie Cox And Vincent D’Onofrio Give New Details!

Talking in a reddit AMA earlier this week alongside co-star Vincent D’Onofrio, Charlie Cox dropped some very interesting hints about what’s to come in the highly anticipated Marvel/Netflix series. For starters, he once again confirmed that fans will get to see the classic red suit (or at least a version of it). “I love both of the suits,” he told one fan. “Obviously it was great to involve the John Romita Jr. black ninja costume but the day I first put on the iconic costume is a day I will never forget.” Despite the dark and realistic tone, Daredevil will obviously embrace the comic books to some extent then, something Cox hopes to see reflected through the introduction of certain villains in the near future. “I have no idea if it could ever work in our show but I would love to see Stilt Man make an entrance. Maybe even Jester.” That would be a lot of fun!

Talk then turned to the comic books, with the British actor quizzed on which he read to prepare for the role of Matt Murdock in the drama which is so far receiving widespread critical acclaim. “I really love the issues when Matt Murdock is defending the White Tiger. It was so cool to read a comic book with such a compelling courtroom scene. I also have to mention Jeph Loeb’s Daredevil Yellow. So touching.” He added: “The greater part of my preparation was spent reading comics. I think you will find influence from many of the DD writers and illustrators over the years. Personally, I found Bendis/Maleev runs incredibly helpful in terms of the tone of our show.” Cox is clearly well prepared then, something which is reflected in the names he dropped when asked about who some of his favourites are now. What are the chances some of these characters appear? “Since I got cast in the role, I have read hundreds of comics. There are so many great characters but some of my favorites are the following: The Punisher, The Purple Man, and Thor.”

Inevitably, questions were asked about the fact that Daredevil takes place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Cox had this to say when asked about which superhero he would most like to tem up with. “I really think Chris Evans does an amazing job as Captain America and I happen to think him and Daredevil would work well together.” Oh, and he’s still waiting on an invite for Captain America: Civil War and/or Avengers: Infinity War! “I have no idea if this is even a possibility but I can tell you that I would love nothing more. I don’t see why the character from our show couldn’t fit in with the Avengers, if he was invited ;)”

Here are some more things brought up in the AMA:

No Free Comics: Asked whether the actors were given any comics to read as reference, D’Onofrio said, “Given? No. We had to go out an buy it ourselves! (Charlie gave me a Daredevil graphic novel that I pretended I didn’t have already.)”

On favorite Daredevil Comics:

“I really love the issues when Matt Murdock is defending the White Tiger,” Cox said. “It was so cool to read a comic book with such a compelling courtroom scene. I also have to mention Jeph Loeb’s Daredevil Yellow. So touching.” He also said the run by Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev was most useful in establishing the tone of the show.

D’Onofrio said it was interesting to see different creators’ interpretations of Fisk. “From the beginning of Fisk in ‘Spider-Man,’ all the way through to the most recent series with ‘Daredevil,’ he’s become a much more multi-leveled character. And each series, including ‘The Punisher,’ brought changes and expansion to his character.”

On Season One’s exciting scenes: “There’s a lot,” D’Onofrio said. “I think that the end of the 2nd episode with Charlie is amazing. I just saw it the other day and I was blown away by it. After that, I think there are scenes with Fisk and Vanessa (who’s played by Ayelet Zurer) that came out great. And what happens in those scenes I don’t think anyone would expect from a superhero series.”

In a similar vein, D’Onofrio said he would recommend “Daredevil” because “it’s a new way of doing a superhero show. It’s something unlike what you’ve seen before. Because of Steven DeKnight’s writing and, as I said, the platform under this umbrella of Netflix. Netflix allowed us the time and gave us the care to get it right, so you’ll have 13 hours of storytelling. That’s something, when it comes to superheroes, you’ve never experienced before. And I believe that we took the time they gave us and we were inspired by the material. And in my opinion, knocked it out of the park.”

On building character: The actors were asked about what makes their characters interesting, in a few different ways. Describing Fisk in three words, D’Onofrio chose “Child and Monster.” Cox said the most interesting thing about Daredevil is that, “I like to think that Daredevil is labeled the Man Without Fear by the public who see what he does but actually, he is a man who feels fear like the rest of us. I am impressed by someone who is frightened but chooses to act anyway.”

D’Onofrio added, “I think that one of the great changes that Charlie made as an actor was to not divide the two– Matt Murdock and Daredevil. They are one. I believe that was Charlie’s choice, and an actor, and that was very smart. That unlike other superheroes, there’s really no change when the vigilante outfit is on. He is Matt Murdock and Daredevil all the time.”

On “Daredevil” characters appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe: D’Onofrio said he’d love to appear in “Captain America: Civil War,” but wouldn’t mind being in “the whole series.” “Also, since Spidey is back at Marvel, there was no other badder nemesis in Spidey than Wilson.”

On standing out from the crowd: Asked what would differentiate “Daredevil” from other superhero shows, D’Onofrio said, “I think because it’s under the umbrella of Netflix, we have an opportunity to do things that other Marvel shows aren’t doing. We can be, for lack of a better term, down and dirty, just simply because of our platform. And there’s been a lot of care taken in this Daredevil series. Everybody wanted to knock it out of the park for the fans.”

When you’re a Jet: Asked who would win in a fight between Cox and Ben Affleck, both as Daredevil “but in the style of West Side Story,” Cox said simply, “He would.”

No DAREDEVIL For CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

We know that the Marvel Studios Netflix shows co-exist with Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the other Avengers movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. What we don’t know is when we’ll see a Netflix character appear in a Marvel Studios film. The same question has been plaguing Charlie Cox, who plays Daredevil in the upcoming series.

“I’ve been reading Civil War – and Daredevil does appear in that. And look – again, just to clarify – I have not been called about that. I haven’t been invited to that party! But it would be very, very cool. Just to be in the background, saying cool stuff every now and then. It would be cool to be with all those guys,” Cox told IGN.

Before leaving the question, Cox went on to share his vision of himself in the background as “Just a blur of red!” If anything can be taken from this statement, it’s a reiteration of the fact that we will definitely see the red Daredevil suit we’ve come to know in the comic books.

Starring Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, and more, Daredevil will premiere on Netflix on April 10th.

Charlie Cox Talks DAREDEVIL

Actor Charlie Cox was battling a case of food poisoning last night but still appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman to promote Marvel’s Daredevil collaboration with Netflix.
Here’s what he said:

Charlie explains Daredevil to Letterman.
“It’s a new collaboration between Marvel and Netflix.  And Daredevil is one of the most beloved superheroes.  He’s blind, which is interesting – his disability is his strength.  As a 9-year-old boy, he was blinded in  a road accident where he was saving an old man crossing the street.  There was a chemical spillage that went into his eyes and the byproduct of that accident is that his senses were heightened to such a degree that he can operate better than a seeing-person. “

On how the Netflix-model will benefit the show.
“We’re very much encouraged to talk about binge-watching.  I think [binge-watching] increases viewership.  It seems to be a proven model with the way people like to watch television these days.  They like to choose how many episodes they watch and when they watch them. “

Will there be more Daredevil?
“I don’t know, I hope so.  They’re going to release the first 13 on April 10 at 12:01 AM.  If everyone watches it, binge-watches it…..”

MARVEL’S DAREDEVIL stars Cox, Deborah Ann Woll, Rosario Dawson and Vincent D’Onofrio. Steven S. DeKnight served as executive producer in addition to writing and directing the series finale. Drew Goddard contributed to the story before departing the project for Sony’s Sinister Six film. Christos Gage, Ruth Gage, Luke Kalteux and Douglas Petrie also wrote additional episodes. Daredevil will be released on April 10.

New Stills And Promo For MARVEL’S DAREDEVIL

It’s only two more weeks until Marvel Studios’ first Netflix series “Daredevil” arrives on the streaming service. And as the latest volley to capturing some new subscribers for the event, the company has released some stills, and a new video promo via the show’s Facebook page teasing the mission of the Nelson/Murdock law firm and more.

(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));

Charlie Cox Talks Daredevil Influences, 2003 Movie, And More

In an interview today on the SCRATCH the SURFACE podcast with EJ Scott, Charlie Cox sat down and talked about Daredevil, Boardwalk Empire, family and learning how-to hack it as a blind man . While the interview wasn’t primarily Daredevil related, there were quite a few pieces of information worth noting.

On the 2003 Daredevil movie.
I actually didn’t dislike Ben Affleck in it, I felt like tonally the movie was confused and I didn’t feel like Ben Affleck and Colin Farrell were in the same movie. Ironically, I thought that Colin Farrell was closer to what the director was going for. Sometimes he would have en emotional response or a facial expression in a scene that was very representative of a comic panel.

I thought it was fun at times, I just don think to make that movie in that tone suits daredevil, it doesn’t really work for that character and that world.

On influences and reading preparation for the role.
I started with #1, which I really really enjoyed and then the production [crew] sent me stuff that they wanted me to read, that they thought was relevant to what they were writing. So they sent me Daredevil Yellow, they sent me the Man without Fear, obviously.

And then they sent me, it’s called Daredevil Hardcore.

So I read them, and then it became evident to me, and I had seen the first few scripts, so I had an idea tonally of where they were going. So I was flipping around, they gave me a Marvel Unlimited account, so I was going through all of the stuff. And I kind of ended up reading all the Bendis/Maleev stuff and into the Bendis/Mack and End of Days.

On how Daredevil doesn’t really have a cinematic point of view (due to blindness) and a bit on how they will display his powers.
We had to adapt certain things for the purpose of story telling. Like for example, and I’m making this up so there are no spoilers here, there is a scene where I come into the room, and lets say there are guns all over the floor on one side of the room and drugs on the other side of the room. Im just making this up, I promise I’m just making this up. So lets say that’s the scene. I come into the room, and I [Daredevil] can pick up on those things, based on a combination of his senses, smell, gunpowder in the air, taste of cocaine in the air or whatever, he can sense those things. But you can’t tell that story on camera without having a camera move that goes to them. Daredevil wouldn’t need to look in that direction in order to sense those objects, but the camera needs to. So we had to come up with a way where he has to focus on things in order to kind of sense them, and by focusing he kind of cocks his head towards what it is he’s trying to get a sense of, trying to kind of create an image in his mind of what it is, so we can tell that story.
