Joss Whedon Explains LOKI’S Cut From AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON And Other Things

Idris Elba let slip last year that he had filmed an Avengers: Age of Ultron scene with Tom Hiddleston, but while Heimdall does make an appearance in the Marvel sequel, Loki is nowhere to be seen. Evidently, Hiddleston’s cameo was left on the cutting room floor, as Joss Whedon now confirms.

“We did shoot something, but it didn’t play,” the Age of Ultron writer-director told MTV News. “The movie has so much. It’s so filled. We didn’t want it to feel overstuffed. I really wanted to have Loki in it, but I understood the decision that there were now too many voices in the chorus.  Whedon added, “At some point the embarrassment of riches is actually embarrassing.”

Perhaps, Tom Hiddleston’s cameo will be included in the many deleted scenes to be featured on the Blu-ray and DVD* release for Avengers: Age of Ultron. In the meantime, we can still expect the God of Mischief’s full-fledged return in Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017.

*Amazon a few days ago showed that Marvel has plans for an extended cut and alternate ending for Avengers: Age of Ultron when it reaches DVD and Blu-ray. The information came from an email which was sent out by Amazon with a link to pre-order the sequel. Well, the online shopping service has now sent out another – to UK customers – which reveals that the information they sent out “may not be correct” because “the studio hasn’t yet confirmed which special features will be included.”

That all makes sense, especially when Avengers: Age of Ultron has only just come out in the UK. However, it’s hard to imagine that Amazon just plucked this information out of nowhere, so it could just be that they’ve had a telling off from Disney for revealing something they shouldn’t have. We’ll have to wait and see, but it will probably be a long time until we get any sort of confirmation

At the recent Los Angeles press day for the film, Collider landed an exclusive interview with Joss Whedon. He talked about memorable moments from filming, his first cut, deleted scenes, if he planted any hidden Easter Eggs, how the finished film compares to what he thought going in, future plans now that his Marvel contract has ended, the full version of “Save or Kill”, and more.

Tom Hiddleston Talks THOR: RAGNAROK

Talking at the BAFTAs last night, Tom Hiddleston was asked about his future as Loki and whether the character will be taking over the next few years of his life. “Probably. Thor 3 is happening at some point, and the last time we saw Loki, he was on the throne. There are some questions to be answered!” he said of Thor: Ragnarok. As for whether or not the British actor will be playing Loki for years to come, he replied: “I don’t know if I could [Laughs]. If I keep dying my hair black, it’s going to fall out! But no, I love the character. It’s a great, great character and it’s amazing how the Marvel world who people who love films. It’s fun!” Check out the video above for more!

KONG SKULL ISLAND: Michael Keaton in Talks

“Birdman” star Michael Keaton is in negotiations to join “Kong: Skull Island” for Universal and Legendary.

The King Kong origins project is set to open on March 10, 2017, and will be released in 3D.  The studio and Legendary unveiled “Skull Island” during Comic-Con in July, then disclosed in September that Tom Hiddleston was on board to star with Jordan Vogt-Roberts directing.

Universal decided last month to move “Skull Island” back four months and brought on J.K. Simmons to co-star.

John Gatins (“Flight”) and Max Borenstein (“Godzilla”) wrote the script, about a team of explorers who venture deep inside the primordial island that is King Kong’s home. Legendary said the story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore created in the iconic 1933 film.

Legendary’s Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni will produce; Alex Garcia exec produces.

KONG: SKULL ISLAND: JK Simmons Added To Cast

Deadline report that the awesome J.K. Simmons (Spider-Man, OZ, Juno, Whiplash) will be joining Tom Hiddleston (The Avengers, Thor when we return to King Kong’s home next year. His exact role is unspecified however. The movie recently backed away from its original release date — and Marvels Doctor Strange — and will now hit theaters March 10th, 2017. Details on the story are slim, but we do have this brief description. “Previous works have touched on the island, but staying on and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions.” Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kings Of Summer) will direct with a script by John Gatins and Max Borenstein.

‘King Kong’ Origin SKULL ISLAND Gets A New Title And Backs Down From DOCTOR STRANGE!

Skull Island (which has a new title you can find after the jump) has backed down from the power of Marvel and Benedict Cumberbatch and will no longer open opposite Doctor Strange in 2016. Instead, we’ll be waiting quite a while longer to see it.

Well, it looks like we’ll never find out who would win in a fight between Benedict Cumberbatch and Tom Hiddleston as Kong: Skull Island has been pushed back to March 10th, 2017. It was originally set to open opposite Doctor Strange on November 4th, 2016, but if Batman and Superman are scared of facing off against Marvel, you have to imagine that King Kong is as well! Kong: Skull Island will be helmed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and a vague description revealed earlier this year that, “Previous works have touched on the island, but staying on and exploring this mysterious and dangerous place offers Legendary the opportunity to take audiences deeper inside this rich world with a style and scope that parallels other Legendary productions.”

Tom Hiddleston’s Loki And Idris Elba’s Heimdall Confirmed For Avengers: Age of Ultron

While it was previously thought that Tom Hiddleston’s Loki would not be a part of Avengers: Age of Ultron, it has now been revealed by Idris Elba that both him and Hiddleston are actually in the film.
In an interview with the Telegraph, Elba let the detail slip out while talking about a DJ set he had played in a Ibizia nightclub. Elba revealed that the day before the DJ set he had just shot a scene for Avengers: Age of Ultron. Elba said, “And I’m doing a scene with Chris Hemsworth [who plays Thor] and Tom Hiddleston [Loki], and they’re like, [whispers] – ‘Aren’t you [meant to be] in Ibiza?’”
So what is the mystery scene that Elba is referring to that he shot with Hemsworth and Hiddleston? The Avengers: Age of Ultron trailer revealed what appeared to be flashback scenes for Captain America and Black Widow. The Avengers: Age of Ultron clip shown at the Marvel Studios Phase 3 event also featured Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. talking about what that Maximoff kid had shown Thor. It’s probably likely that Hiddleston and Elba appear in a vision that Scarlet Witch shows Thor.
In addition to mentioning his Avengers: Age of Ultron scene, Elba also talked about the challenge of adjusting from playing Mandela to doing a reshoot scene for Thor: The Dark World. Ebla said, “I’m actually falling down from a spaceship, so they had to put me in harness in this green-screen studio. And in between takes I was stuck there, fake hair stuck on to my head with glue, this f—— helmet, while they reset. And I’m thinking: ‘24 hours ago, I was Mandela’.”
Avengers: Age of Ultron is set to be released in movie theaters on May 1, 2015.
