It’s YELLOWJACKET VS ANT-MAN In New Promo Still

In Marvel’s Ant-Man, Paul Rudd plays jailbird-turned-superhero Scott Lang, who has the power to shrink himself and control his six-legged namesakes, thanks to gear designed by inventor Hank Pym (Michael Douglas). But Lang’s armor is positively pacifist compared with the more advanced suit worn by the nefarious Darren Cross, a.k.a. Yellowjacket (Corey Stoll). “Hank Pym’s Ant-Man suit doesn’t have a single weapon,” says director Peyton Reed (Yes Man), “whereas Yellowjacket is armed with plasma cannons.”

That would make the first big showdown between the foes, pictured here, a decided mismatch, right? Maybe not. “Ant-Man is very fast when he’s small,” he says. “Also, when he shrinks, he increases his density, so he’s got increased strength.” (Not to mention that ant-whispering power, which plays a crucial role in Lang’s attempt to steal Yellowjacket’s garb.)

To film this encounter, the costars wore motion-capture suits and were shot separately. “It was a new experience as far as the motion-capture-suit-ness of it,” says Rudd, who is better known on screen for cracking wise than cracking heads. “But none of it feels that different. Every part, I’m pretending to be somebody I’m not. It’s all just a big lie!”

Speaking of untruths, Reed insists Internet reports that he recently reshot some of the film are just that. “I love turning on the computer in the morning and reading the things that I did the day before—that I didn’t do!” he says. “We are going to do a little bit of additional photography, but we have not done any yet. It’s minor stuff.” To sum up: Don’t make a mountain out of a molehill. Or an anthill.

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world. Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, Evangeline Lilly, David Dastmalchian, Michael Pena, Bobby Cannavale, Abby Ryder Fortson, Judy Greer, Wood Harris, John Slattery and Gregg Turkington with multi-hyphenate T.I., and the film opens July 17, 2015

Bobby Cannavale Reveals ANT-MAN Role, Talks Shoot, Co-Stars, And Insect Action Scenes

Source: ComicBook.com

Several weeks ago, Blue Jasmine and Boardwalk Empire actor Bobby Cannavale revealed that he would be playing someone new in Marvel’s Ant-Man, and would only say that he shared a lot of scenes with Judy Greer and his real-life buddy Paul Rudd. But now we have some more details about his role.

“Judy Greer is in it and she plays my wife,” Cannavale divulged in an Esquire interview. Greer is playing Scott Lang’s (Rudd) ex-wife. That should lead to some awkward dialogue between Cannavale and Rudd, who have “a lot of scenes together.”

The character was included in the original Ant-Man script that was written by Edgar Wright, but when he left the project Rudd and Adam McKay did some major rewrites. “They sort of pumped the part up a bit in the new version and they both called me and said, ‘You’ve got to do this.’,” Cannavale recalled.

And does Cannavle feel any pressure now that he is apart of the Marvel cinematic universe? “You know, look, I’m not playing the guy in the suit,” Cannavale said. “So I don’t have that kind of pressure. But if you know Paul, you know he’s a pretty down-to-earth guy. I have to say, the whole thing, for as big as it was, felt like an indie film. With the exception of all the blue screen and the ridiculous suit that he’s in. And the fact that I’ve got to look at something that’s not there and react to something like an explosion when there’s no explosion. Aside from that, the actual scenes themselves were really fun and funny and we improvised a lot. It almost felt like an Adam McKay film. Since Guardians of the Galaxy, I think Marvel’s sort of taken a different approach to their films and have injected them with a lot of levity. It’s a great choice to have Paul play that role, sort of in the same vein as having Chris Pratt do Guardians. It still has the totemic idea of the hero, but the sense of humor is what’s different in comparison to something like Thor.”

Bobby Cannavale talked in-depth with CBR about seeing Paul Rudd costumed on set, and how it was difficult imagining Rudd shrinking and growing, among other things. . “It was [still] a trip because I’ve known Paul for so long, since before he was famous like this, and it’s just a trip to see one of your best friends in ridiculous leather suit with dots all over him and you’re not supposed to laugh,” said Cannavale. “We just laughed. He’s supposed to be this big [pinches fingers together]. Then I’m supposed to see him growing in front of me. But what I’m really seeing is Paul off-camera standing on an apple box. Then he jumps off the apple box. And I’m supposed to act like he’s growing in front of me and then lands with this really heroic pose, but he’s jumping of a box with green dots on him. He’s supposed to have a mask that they CGI in. so I’ve never seen the mask. Every time I see him to talk, he goes like this [hits a pretend button] because there’s a button there that isn’t really there. I wasn’t used to that. He’d start to talk and he’d be like, [pretends to push button]. I’d ask ridiculous questions all the time. Peyton Reed, he just kept saying, ‘Dude, just do it.’ But I’d say, ‘I don’t understand. Does the mask go up this way or this way?’ And there’s a visual effects guy there and I want an answer. They got so tired of my questions: ‘So I don’t understand — If I was just over there, how did I get over here so quick?’ Reed would be like, ‘Cannavale, it’s a superhero movie, dude. Just do it!’ But I’d say, ‘Yeah, but do I have superhuman speed, because I was just three blocks away and now I’m here and I’m not even out of breath. Should I be out of breath?’ He’d be like, ‘Dude, it’s not the Unbearable Lightness of Being. It’s just [frick]ing Ant-Man. Just say the line.’ Then it just became a joke. I had a blast. We laughed so much on that thing.”

Bobby Cannavle then explained how the cast of Ant-Man made it easier to wrap his head around everything. “Guys like Corey Stoll and Rudd, Judy Greer and Michael Pena, Martin Donovan — really, really good actors,” he said. “And so I looked around and thought, ‘You know, if these guys are doing it, I’m okay.’ There were no wrestlers or anything. We had T.I., but T.I. was great. But definitely very different from the movies that I’m used to making, for sure.” Finally, Cannavale was asked if he did a movie post-Ant-Man to help get back to filming the way he’s used to. “It was actually the reverse,” he replied. “I literally wrapped with [Martin] Scorsese — I worked with Scorsese all summer on the rock and roll pilot, and it was literally the longest pilot ever. It was like a 38-day pilot, so we shot all summer. I literally wrapped with Marty at like one o’clock in the morning, an intense scene, this intense, dark scene, and wrapped with him, big hug. And then I got onto a plane in Atlanta for a blue screen test of me fighting with a 50-foot ant. And I wrote Marty right away — I was like, ‘This business is weird.” [Laughs] “I can’t believe I was just with you, and now I’m reacting to an ant I can’t see.'”

New Ant-Man Scene Description Teases Cheeky Dialogue And ‘Scott Lang’ Vs. ‘Hope Van Dyne’

Beyond the exclusive look at Avengers: Age of Ultron, the latest issue of Empire magazine also features tidbits on Marvel’s second “Phase Two” outing this year, Ant-Man. The article highlights a visit to the set in Atlanta, Georgia, last year when journalists had witnessed filming of a scene in which Evangeline Lilly essentially shows Paul Rudd who’s boss. Read the scene description below:

This morning’s Ant-Man scene takes place in the basement gym of Hank Pym-or, in Rudd’s words, “the Pymnasium”- where Empire is about to witness a class training montage. Fake sunlight is streaming through the windows. Then a fist socks Rudd in the face, and he goes down hard. “Ooh… Aaah… It hurts…” he moans into the mat. His opponent is Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), who follows her finishing move by dancing around her flattered foe. As the camera keeps rolling, Rudd attempts to get up, his knee squeaking against the mat … that sounds a lot like prolonged flatulence. “Sorry,” he says. “I’m on a very restricted diet.”

Furthermore, Empire magazine goes on to explain how Scott Lang is unlike previous heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, given his combat style could use some improvement. “Scott’s okay; he knows how to handle himself,” Rudd told them in-between beat-downs from Lilly. “But okay is not going to cut it when it comes to fighting her. She knows her stuff.” About the knee-farting gag, which he “perfected” while filming I Love You, Man, Paul Rudd says “there are probably cooler things to be known for.” Rudd had later gushed about having his own action figure. “Crazy, isn’t it?” he asked. “Though there actually is already an Anchorman action figure of me. I look like a cross between Wolverine and Robert Goulet.” Meanwhile, Ant-Man director Peyton Reed also talks briefly about the movie. “The tone of this is unique,” he said. “It has drama, it has comedy, it has a hero with a shitty van and a cut under his eye.”  Very unique… What do you think?

ANT-MAN: Major Story And Character Details Revealed

Entertainment Weekly were lucky enough to visit the set of Ant-Man last year, and they have a very interesting feature up about their time there. For starters, they witnessed a scene which took place in Hank Pym’s (Michael Douglas) basement control room as he, Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) come up with a plan to steal the Yellowjacket suit from Darren Cross (Corey Stoll). They caught some snippets of dialogue – “Cross has the place loaded with transmission blockers!” – and even a mention of Howard Stark, but that’s as specific as things get. However, those of you worrying that major changes will be made to Lang’s origin story (in which he steals the Ant-Man suit from Pym) needn’t worry, as they seemingly reveal that he does indeed end up “nabbing” the Ant-Man suit when he’s released from jail. Lang spends time behind bars for stealing from a CEO of a corrupt company that was itself stealing from its employees.

“He’s not used to being a hero,” director Peyton Reed tells the site. “He’s more like George Clooney in Ocean’s Eleven. He’s a guy trying to create a new life for himself and find redemption.” If you’re still sceptical about Rudd being cast as Ant-Man, Marvel President Kevin Feige elaborates on what makes the comedic actor the right man for the job. “We wanted Scott Lang to have made mistakes that cost him dearly. But we wanted the audience to be rooting for him despite that. Paul Rudd can do almost anything and you’re still charmed by him.” It sounds like Lang and Pym cross paths when the original Ant-Man hires the “master theif” to steal his suit as some sort of test. From there, Scott is trained by his new mentor all as part of the plan to take down Cross. The villain is apparently a former protégé of Pym’s who has developed his own version of the Ant-Man technology and created Yellowjacket. The duo’s attempt to steal his suit will be complicated somewhat by the precense of Hope. “She’s not been in her father’s life for a long time,” Lilly says. “So her arc in the movie—as Scott’s is with his daughter—is trying to find a relationship.”
So, how are they going to go about filming those shrinking scenes? (we caught a glimpse of one such moment in the trailer of course) “What we’re doing is very different from Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” Reed promises. “It’s going to be much more experiential.” As a result, the actors won’t be working with oversized props as Marvel are taking the far more advanced route of using macro photography and motion-capture technology. “There are cameras and lenses that make small areas look like the most epic landscapes,” adds co-producer Brad Winderbaum. “Then we’re shooting motion capture with Paul to insert Ant-Man into those environments.” Both Rudd and Stoll donned motion capture suits as a result, with the latter saing: “The director shouts out, ‘And now you’re gonna get punched on the left side of your face!’ ‘And now there’s a swarm of ants!’ It was a lot of fun.”

Entertainment Weekly also shares new character details. “[Darren Cross] was this child prodigy that Hank Pym nurtured,” said Corey Stoll of his character who later becomes the Yellowjacket . “He started to become aware of this fabled technology that can shrink people to half an inch. Now he’s discovered his own version of that technology-which has a psychotic effect on people if they use it too much.” It’s also revealed that Scott Lang’s allies are portrayed by Clifford “T.I.” Harris (Dave), Michael Peña (Luis), and David Dastmalchian (Kurt), whom he meets in prison early in the film. Though the trio are not based on characters from the comics, Harris says they all play a major role in Ant-Man. “We are the team that makes up the Ant-Man crusaders, if you will,” said the rapper/actor.

ANT-MAN: Composer Revealed

FMR reports that Christophe Beck will provide the score for Marvel’s Ant-Man, which just debuted its teaser trailer last night. Beck is most well known for composing the music for Disney’s hit film Frozen though he also provided the score for all three “Hangover” movies, The Muppets, and the comic book-based Elektra, RED, and R.I.P.D. It should be noted, however, that Beck previously worked with Marvel maestro Joss Whedon on both “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and its spin-off “Angel,” for a combined 80 episodes.

KEVIN FEIGE: Teases Hank Pym’s "Many Adventures" As ANT-MAN And More

Talking to USA Today in a brief interview excerpt from a feature on upcoming movie, Kevin Feige talks more about what we should expect from the movie.

Apparently, we will first meet Scott Lang as he leaves prison, with him having served his time for crimes which have left him estranged from his wife and daughter (4-year-old Cassie Lang). According to the Marvel Studios President, Ant-Man is “one of the most surprisingly emotional” movies yet to be released by them, and part of what brings Scott and Hank Pym together is the fact that Pym too is seeking redemption with his daughter, Hope Van Dyne. “Hank Pym invented the Ant-Man technology, went on many adventures and is now much older and trying to recruit a new person,’‘ says Feige. “It’s the first film we’ve made in which the story is about a torch being passed, essentially.”

ANT-MAN: Trailer Has Been Classified, Should Be Released Soon

The first trailer for Ant-Man has been classified by the Alberta Film Classification board.

A trailer is usually released shortly after it is classified. It’s unclear what film the trailer would run in front of, however. The only Disney release in close proximity is Into the Woods, opening on Christmas Day, which may be too close to have the trailer ready for. However, it’s not unheard of for a studio to advertise a major film in front of another studio’s release, so perhaps it will appear in front of an unexpected film in January.

The trailer’s runtime is 1 minute and 48 seconds, so it will be more than a simple tease, and the trailer (not the film itself) is rated PG, so it will likely run in front of a film with a similar or lesser rating. The trailer will likely be release online shortly after it’s theatrical debut, if not before that.

Ant-Man opens July 17, 2015, and also stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, Tip “Ti” Harris, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, Jordi Mollà, and Michael Peña.

Ant-Man wraps up Phase 2 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on July 17, 2015, preceded by Avengers: Age of Ultron on May 1, 2015. Captain America: Civil War starts Phase 3 on May 6, 2016, followed by Doctor Strange on November 4, 2016, Guardians of the Galaxy 2 on May 5, 2017, Thor: Ragnarok on July 28, 2017, Black Panther on November 3, 2017, Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 on May 4, 2018, Captain Marvel on July 6, 2018, Inhumans on November 2, 2018 and Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2 on May 3, 2019.
