New STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Set Photos; Episode VIII Star Date; Characters Confirmed

The cover of the latest issue of Vanity Fair features some of the cast of J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens in character. There’s Daisy Ridley as Rey, John Boyega as Finn, Harrison Ford as Han Solo; along with Chewie and BB8.
Below you’ll find a great batch of new official images from Star Wars: The Force Awakens courtesy of Vanity Fair and they’re quite revealing indeed. It seems J.J. Abrams has decided to let a few items slip free from his “mystery box”, as these stills confirm that it is indeed Adam Driver under the mask of the sinister Kylo Ren. Plus we see Lupita Nyong’o shooting scenes as her still unnamed mo-cap character, possibly Maz Kanata, and a whole host of new aliens and creatures. There’s also a BTS video featuring comments from Abrams and some of the cast.

Now that we have confirmation that Adam Driver would be playing the villainous ‘Kylo Ren’ in the much-anticipated seventh installment in the Star Wars saga. We also got a look at several of Driver’s co-stars, including Lupita Nyong’o filming mo-cap scenes. Now it seems we can tick Gwendoline Christie’s character off of the list of unnamed roles. A new image taken from the Star Wars Vanity Fair issue appears to confirm that she will play “First Order Officer, Captain Phasma”.

The British government formally announced Monday that episode eight of the Star Wars franchise will be shot at Pinewood Studios just outside of London.

“Pleased to announce #StarWarsVIII will be filmed here in UK @PinewoodStudios – great news for @starwars fans & our UK creative industries,” tweeted George Osborne, the U.K. Chancellor of the Exchequer, the British equivalent of the secretary of the Treasury. Osborne also trumped up the $152 million (₤100 million) inward investment and 3,000 jobs the production will bring.

The news comes on Star Wars Day (May the Fourth), but also coincidentally a bank holiday Monday in the U.K. Lucasfilm and Disney representatives couldn’t immediately be reached. Pinewood declined to comment.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens, opens in theaters December 18, 2015. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan & Abrams, and features a cast including actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Crystal Clarke, Pip Andersen, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow. They will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker. The film is being produced by Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Oscar Isaac Reveals New X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Plot Details And More

Not much is known about X-Men: Apocalypse other than the fact that it’s going to feature a hell of a lot of mutants, but Oscar Isaac has revealed some new details about the movie in an interview with IGN. They kicked the interview off by asking him about Apocalypse’s relationship with his Four Horsemen, and it sounds like it’s going to be an interesting process. “Without giving anything away, the recruitment of the Four Horsemen is very cool. It’s very interesting the way that he does that. You know the idea of – the way that cult leaders do – they find people that are in need of something and try to fulfill that thing in them – as it relates to every one of the Horseman.”

Apocalypse sounds quite human then, but will he look that way too? Mentioning the fact that the villain can change his form at will, the site asked Isaac about whether he’s excited to possibly explore multiple facets of Apocaypse’s appearance. “Absolutely. And at the same time figuring out what the limits are and how it relates to how he moves and what it costs him. That’s always a fun thing. So to be able to sit with [writer/producer] Simon Kinberg and – as a fan – just go through it and be like, ‘Well what about this!?! You know, this is something that he does in the comics and is there a way to incorporate this? Or if he has this power suddenly how do we make that not come out of nowhere?’ So it’s really fun to map that thing out. But yes, the nature of how his powers manifest themselves is to a certain extent quite open to interpretation. Because there are so many and they are so vast.” It could be that this take on the villain will definitely be sticking to the comic books, something which will be a nice change in Bryan Singer’s X-Men movies.

As for the new plot details we mentioned, the actor had this to say about what to expect from Apocalypse’s arrival. “On an individual level he’s able to reveal the true power of his Horsemen and what’s true to them. And I think to reveal the weakness – how weak we’ve become. Because this is an ancient entity. So to come to – I think 1983 – and say, ‘How did the world become so weak? How did we allow ourselves to become to weak and to enslave ourselves.’ I think that’s where he’s coming from.”

X-Men: Apocalypse, directed by Bryan Singer (X-Men: Days of Future Past), will hit theaters on May 27, 2016 and stars Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Charles Xavier), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Oscar Isaac (Apocalypse), Rose Byrne (Moira McTaggert), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Ben Hardy (Angel), Olivia Munn(Psylocke), Lucas Till(Havok) and Lana Condor (Jubillee).

Oscar Isaac Talks X-MEN APOCALYPSE, STAR WARS EPISODE VIII, And More

Speaking to Moviefone, Oscar Isaac was asked questions about Star Wars, his experience inside of an X-Wing, and his role as the titular villain in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse.

“It was very cool, but a little nauseating because the thing is on a gimbal and moving all around,” Issac said describing his experience inside an X-Wing. “I forgot to breathe and I was like, ‘Whoa.’ But it was very cool.” Issac also seemingly confirms his return for Star Wars Episode VIII after saying he “very excited” to work with director Rian Johnson.

Finally Oscar Issac revealed why he decided to take on the role of Apocalypse saying, “My first comic book I ever collected was ‘X-Factor’ and I actually really loved Apocalypse, and yeah, so when I heard that maybe that would be the next villain, I was like, ‘Guys, get me in there, I want to meet with them’…Apocalypse is so cool and weird and scary and I wanted to be a part of that.” The actor also keeps mum when asked whether or not he will be doing any motion capture for the role. “[Pause] I’m going to be on set… Although I don’t know the details of the whole situation.”

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” hit theaters December 18, 2015. “X-Men: Apocalypse” is due out May 27, 2016.

Oscar Isaac Teases Even More Info About Apocalypse For X-men Apocalypse

Oscar Isaac has exclusively revealed to Yahoo Movies that the transformation he’ll undergo to play the titular villain in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ will be a combination of physical and CGI.

“It’ll be a mix [of practical and digital]. I haven’t had a script so I haven’t had a chance to look through the script and see what the exact requirements are, but I think it’ll be a mixture of physical, aided with some robotic technology.”

The 35-year-old star let slip this nugget of X-info while we were chatting with him earlier this week about his new film ‘Ex Machina’ (in cinemas now) and we think his “robotic technology” comment was a nod towards that film, rather than a direct reference to X-Men.

He also revealed that pre-production for the film, which is coming to cinemas in 2016, is already underway.

“After we finish here I’m heading to do a head cast [for ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’], which they do often. You spend 3-4 hours with them putting plaster all over your head and they get a sense of what your face is like and what shape your head is, so they can start figuring out the costume and the make up and all that stuff, which is pretty fun.”

In the comics Apocalypse is an ancient mutant with the ability to complete control over the molecules of his body. He’s usually portrayed as a hulking bruiser with grey and blue-skin who wears an elaborate armoured suit which has been augmented by alien tech, so a combined physical and digital transformation seems appropriate.

X-MEN APOCALYPSE: Oscar Isaac Teases One Of His Mutant Powers As Apocalypse

When Comingsoon.net sat down with Oscar Isaac to discuss A Most Violent Year alongside his co-star Jessica Chastain, the Guatemalan actor was asked about his costume as En Sabah Nur, the villain in the forthcoming X-Men: Apocalypse. “It hasn’t been figured out yet,” he said. “But one of his major powers is being able to change all the molecules in his body. So I’ll be changing all the molecules in my body… It’s gonna be a lot of fun.” Apocalypse had this ability in the comics, and often used it to “merge/switch host bodies to continually revive his self-consuming body.”

In the source material, Apocalypse uses this ability to conform his body to other shapes, sizes, elongate limbs, or adapt it to face extreme conditions/enemy abilities. It’s unclear how this will be used in the film, but let us know your theories in the comments below!

Isaac will appear alongside James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult in the sequel with more names expected to be confirmed shortly. X-Men: Apocalypse is scripted by Simon Kinberg, Mike Dougherty and Dan Harris and is said to be the conclusion of a trilogy started with X-Men: First Class and continued with X-Men: Days of Future Past. The film is also set to feature appearances by a number of familiar characters, including younger versions of Cyclops, Phoenix and Storm. You can learn about the actors and actresses said to up for those roles by clicking here.

Cameras will start rolling on the Bryan Singer directed X-Men: Apocalypse in Montreal beginning April, 2015 for a May 27, 2016 release.

X-MEN APOCALYPSE: Oscar Isaac Says ‘Apocalypse’ Will "Bring The X-MEN Down To Their Knees" In 2016

The news that Apocalypse will be in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past sequel was met with a widely positive response, but some fans are worried about how the director will go about bringing the iconic villain to the big screen. Is he going to look like his comic book counterpart or something entirely different? Either way, it sounds like it will be pretty intimidating! “I’ve seen a couple things,” Oscar Isaac told MTV News at the National Board of Review Awards red carpet recently. “Scary s–t. Scary s–t… I’m going to bring [the X-Men] down to their knees. It’s amazing, I’m so excited about everything that’s going to happen.”

Oscar Isaac Is Apocalypse!!

Twentieth Century Fox has closed a deal for Oscar Isaac to star as Apocalypse in X-Men: Apocalypse. Isaac, stellar in Inside Llewyn Davis, will next be seen opposite Jessica Chastain in A Most Violent Year.
In X-Men, he plays the most powerful mutant ever and the most menacing foe the X-Men have ever faced. Tracks back to ancient times. The main villain of the film. Considers himself a god. From the look of the comic character, Isaac’s going to have to do some benching.
Bryan Singer is back as director, helming a script by Simon Kinberg from a story written by Singer, Kinberg, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris. Singer and Lauren Shuler Donner are producing with Kinberg and Hutch Parker. Emma Watts and Daria Cercek will oversee for the studio. Production begins early next year, for May 27, 2016 release.
