INDIANA JONES 5 Confirmed, But Still in Early Development

When Disney purchased Lucasfilm, the headline news, of course, was that the Mouse House would be moving forward with a new series of Star Wars films. But many also pointed out that as a result of the sale, Disney now had control of another major franchise: Indiana Jones. It was never a question of if Disney would be moving forward with a new Indiana Jones movie, but instead when, and now Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that Indiana Jones 5 is indeed in the works.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, Kennedy was optimistic about the future of Indiana Jones, but cautioned that it’s still very early days:

Kennedy confirmed rumors that another Indy movie “will one day be made inside this company. When it will happen, I’m not quite sure. We haven’t started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it.”

No doubt Kennedy is primarily focused on getting the next phase of the Star Wars franchise off the ground first, with the launch of Star Wars: The Force Awakens this December and a new Star Wars movie every year after that. Things seem to be coalescing quite well on that front, though they were dealt a blow recently when Josh Trank left/was removed from the 2018 Star Wars Anthology film, now reported to be a Boba Fett movie.

Rumors have swirled about an Indiana Jones sequel for a long time now, and indeed in late 2013 Disney gave a timetable of “at least two to three years.” Word has picked up in recent months, with the latest rumor claiming that Steven Spielberg is interested in directing an Indiana Jones reboot starring Chris Pratt. That’s far from confirmed, and as Kennedy points out, the first order of business is putting together a script. Frank Darabont wrote a pretty terrific draft of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull that was subsequently tossed aside, so might I suggest bringing him back into the fold?

Whatever the case, Indiana Jones 5 and/or an Indiana Jones reboot is definitely on the horizon; it just may be a while before we see it come to fruition.

Chris Pratt Has "Nothing" To Say About INDIANA JONES

“It’s all nothing ’till it’s something, and so far it’s not something,” Chris Pratt said when asked to address the rumours that he will play Indiana Jones in Disney’s planned reboot of the Lucasfilm property. As for whether he feels the pressure of potentially taking over the role made famous by Harrison Ford, the Guardians of the Galaxy star added: “No, I don’t think it’s overwhelming to contemplate. It’d be cool. No one’s called me, you know, there’s a lot of talk about it. The pressure would come just because it’s a great franchise, you wouldn’t wanna get it wrong. So, for me, it would have to be perfect to do it. We’ll see.”

Indiana Jones Would Be Awesome Opportunity For Chris Pratt

While Chris Pratt wouldn’t admit to knowing anything about all those rumors about him being in the running to play Indiana Jones, the Guardians of the Galaxy actor did say it would be an “awesome opportunity” to play the character, during a press appearance to talk about his Hasty Pudding Man of the Year award.

Pratt received the Hasty Pudding Man of the Year honor and was roasted on Friday night at Harvard University. During the roast, there were references made to Pratt’s past and upcoming films. One of the presenters told Pratt that he was going to give him “one of the Infinity Stones,” before presenting him with a bra with dinosaurs on it instead.

Pratt also spoke about his recent appearance at Christopher’s Haven, praising the organization for the work it does for kids battling cancer. Pratt also said that he planned to continue his charitable appearances.

“I said it before, and I plan to live by it,” said Pratt. “Going into doing Guardians of the Galaxy if it was ever successful enough where it would actually make an impact on a kid’s life in a positive way, I would be there to try to do that, and I’ve been really blessed and happy to do that.”

Disney Eyeing Chris Pratt For Indiana Jones Revival

Disney are apparently looking for Chris Pratt for an Indiana Jones reboot. Pratt jumped to leading-man movie status with his performance in last year’s blockbuster Guardians Of The Galaxy for Marvel and Disney. He starts The Magnificent Seven with Denzel Washington and director Antoine Fuqua in April for MGM and Sony, and there’s the inevitable Guardians Of The Galaxy sequel. Disney won’t comment and all this is admittedly early, so let’s chalk it up as a dishy informed rumor for now and keep an eye on it.
