New INDEPENDENCE DAY 2 Poster

At the Licensing Expo 2015 in Las Vegas, many studios and production companies like Warner Bros. are showing off their goods, from costumes to posters, and mostly everything you need to sell a movie. But it is the latter that is what 20th Century Fox was concerned for Roland Emmerich’s upcoming sequel to Independence Day, as they released the first official poster! Check it out down below!

After Independence Day redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global catastrophe on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

So either the aliens have returned to suck up all of humanity through that pretty light beam (not likely) or they’re back with a vengeance and have brought along their powerful world-destroying ship to punch a hole straight through to Earth’s core. Something tells me we’re going to need more than a clever hacker and a smart-ass pilot to bring that sucker down.

Opening in theaters on June 24, 2016, Independence Day 2 stars Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Liam Hemsworth, Maika Monroe, Jessie Usher, Joey King, Sela Ward, Brett Spiner, Vivica A. Fox,William Fichtner, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and Judd Hirsch.

She last appeared at Fox in the box office champ Gone Girl from David Fincher.

Ward joins a cast that includes Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman and Vivica A. Fox (all of whom were in the 1996 original that made $811 million worldwide). Liam Hemsworth and Charlotte Gainsbourg have also joined up for the pic, which is eyeing a May production start and has a June 24, 2016, release date.

The script for the sequel was written by director/producer Emmerich, producer Dean Devlin, James Vanderbilt, James A Woods and Nicolas Wright. Harald Kloser will also produce. Ute Emmerich is the exec producer.
