J.J. Abrams Talks STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS; Plus New Lupita Nyong’o Still

We still haven’t seen the alien character that Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years A Slave) will play in Star Wars: The Force Awakens — unless you count that brief glimpse of her handing over the lightsaber in the latest trailer — but thanks to Vanity Fair’s recent coverage of the movie, we now know her name and profession at least: Maz Kanata, space pirate.

Above we have a new behind-the-scenes snap of Nyong’o performing a mo-cap scene as Maz, but below we have a new excerpt from J.J. Abrams’ interview with the mag. The director reveals that his film will recall certain things from the earlier instalments in the saga, but suggests that they also held back on including some stuff that could have seemed forced.

“We’ve obviously had a lot of time [during the development process] to talk about what’s happened outside of the borders of the story that you’re seeing. So there are, of course, references to things, and some are very oblique so that hopefully the audience can infer what the characters are referring to. We used to have more references to things that we pulled out because they almost felt like they were trying too hard to allude to something. I think that the key is—and whether we’ve accomplished that or not is, of course, up to the audience—but the key is that references be essential so that you don’t reference a lot of things that feel like, oh, we’re laying pipe for, you know, an animated series or further movies. It should feel like things are being referenced for a reason.”

Starring original cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker and franchise newcomers, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o and Max von Sydow, Star Wars Episode VII is set to be released on December 18th, 2015.

INDIANA JONES 5 Confirmed, But Still in Early Development

When Disney purchased Lucasfilm, the headline news, of course, was that the Mouse House would be moving forward with a new series of Star Wars films. But many also pointed out that as a result of the sale, Disney now had control of another major franchise: Indiana Jones. It was never a question of if Disney would be moving forward with a new Indiana Jones movie, but instead when, and now Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that Indiana Jones 5 is indeed in the works.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, Kennedy was optimistic about the future of Indiana Jones, but cautioned that it’s still very early days:

Kennedy confirmed rumors that another Indy movie “will one day be made inside this company. When it will happen, I’m not quite sure. We haven’t started working on a script yet, but we are talking about it.”

No doubt Kennedy is primarily focused on getting the next phase of the Star Wars franchise off the ground first, with the launch of Star Wars: The Force Awakens this December and a new Star Wars movie every year after that. Things seem to be coalescing quite well on that front, though they were dealt a blow recently when Josh Trank left/was removed from the 2018 Star Wars Anthology film, now reported to be a Boba Fett movie.

Rumors have swirled about an Indiana Jones sequel for a long time now, and indeed in late 2013 Disney gave a timetable of “at least two to three years.” Word has picked up in recent months, with the latest rumor claiming that Steven Spielberg is interested in directing an Indiana Jones reboot starring Chris Pratt. That’s far from confirmed, and as Kennedy points out, the first order of business is putting together a script. Frank Darabont wrote a pretty terrific draft of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull that was subsequently tossed aside, so might I suggest bringing him back into the fold?

Whatever the case, Indiana Jones 5 and/or an Indiana Jones reboot is definitely on the horizon; it just may be a while before we see it come to fruition.

Second STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY Movie To Focus On BOBA FETT’s Origin Story

Josh Trank was recently dumped by Disney and Lucasfilm from the still untitled Star Wars Anthology movie, but it’s still moving ahead even without a director currently at the helm. According to The Wrap, whoever takes over will get to tell the origin story of Boba Fett! It’s going to be an origin story for the iconic character, presumably taking place some time after the events of Attack of the Clones. After all, the “adventures” of Boba as a kid wouldn’t be all that exciting!

There had been rumours that Rogue One would revolve around bounty hunters, but it seems as if it will be this movie which delves into that world. There’s no word on who’s set to replace Trank or who will play Fett!

New Official Images From STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Show Off Rey And BB8

Entertainment Weekly recently caught up with Daisy Ridley to talk Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and while the relatively unknown British actress obviously couldn’t say much about her character Rey, she did have this to say about her favourite shooting location. “Weirdly enough, probably Abu Dhabi, even though it was so hot, it was like you literally can’t imagine that heat. The feeling of stepping onto a real set for the first time, it genuinely was a baptism of fire. To see creatures walking around and speeders chilling in the sand, that was amazing, and because I was shooting there, it was like everything had built up to that moment. So a few days in, I was like, OK. I’m getting my groove now.” Abu Dhabi doubled for Jakku in the Return of the Jedi follow-up, and you can get a better look at it in the images below. Could that be Rey and BB8’s first meeting?

Starring original cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, Kenny Baker and franchise newcomers, John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o and Max von Sydow, Star Wars Episode VII is set to be released on December 18th, 2015.

DISNEY Have Got A Lot On Their Plates For The Next TWO YEARS!

With Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm under their banner, it’s pretty obvious Disney has some of the biggest movies coming out over the next few years. Add in Disney Animation, DreamWorks and their live action fare, and it gets even bigger. However, until you see all of those films represented in a single image, it’s difficult to grasp the scope of Disney’s impressive release schedule.

It’s not exactly news, but at CinemaCon 2015, which is currently taking place in Las Vegas, Disney showed an image with all of their announced theatrical releases stretching through the summer of 2017. It’s absolutely mind-boggling. Below, see the image of Disney movies release dates, and the full list of movies.

The image was tweeted by /Film, but here it is blown up:

These have all previously been revealed but let’s run them down:

Avengers: Age of Ultron – 5/1/15
Tomorrowland – 5/22/15
Inside Out – 6/19/15
Ant-Man – 7/17/15
Bridge of Spies – 10/16/15
The Good Dinosaur – 11/25/15
Star Wars: The Force Awakens – 12/18/15
The Finest Hours – 1/29/16
Zootopia – 3/4/16
The Jungle Book – 4/15/16
Captain America: Civil War – 5/6/16
Alice Through the Looking Glass – 5/27/16
Finding Dory – 6/17/16
The BFG – 7/1/16
Pete’s Dragon – 8/12/16
Doctor Strange – 11/4/16
Moana – 11/23/16
Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One – 12/16/16
Beauty and the Beast – 3/17/17
Ghost in the Shell – 4/14/17
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 – 5/5/17
Star Wars: Episode VIII – 5/26/17
Toy Story 4 – 6/16/17
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales – 7/7/17

The image stops here, but Box Office Mojo has the rest of it, and it’s still crazy:

Thor: Ragnarok – 11/3/17
Untitled Pixar Animation – 11/22/17
Untitled Disney Animation – 3/9/18
Avengers: Infinity War Part I – 5/4/18
Untitled Pixar Animation – 6/15/18
Black Panther – 7/6/18
Captain Marvel – 11/2/18
Untitled Disney Animation – 11/21/18
Avengers: Infinity War Part II – 5/3/19
Inhumans – 7/12/19

And that’s not including the next Star Wars Anthology film, which will likely be out in 2018, or Star Wars Episode IX, which will likely be out in 2019. I’d also venture to guess one of those untitled Pixar Animation films is The Incredibles 2 and one of the Untitled Disney Animation films is Frozen 2. It’s absolutely incredible.

IMAX Renews Disney Deal; "Captain America: Civil War", "Rogue One", And More Included!

Imax Corporation has renewed its exhibition agreement with Walt Disney Studios, ensuring that its wide screens will host a steady stream of Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm productions in the coming years.

The multi-picture deal begins this year and extends through 2017, and includes such hotly anticipated films as the seventh “Star Wars” picture and the stand-alone “Star Wars” film “Rogue One,” “Captain America: Civil War,” “Doctor Strange” and “Guardians of the Galaxy 2.”

It’s good news for Imax, because many of these productions attract passionate fanboy crowds who typically don’t mind shelling out more for a premium theatrical experience.

The pact also includes a number of Disney titles geared toward families such as “Finding Dory,” “Toy Story 4,” “Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” and a “Jungle Book” remake.

Potential Description Of The Next STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Trailer

It may not be legit, but a pretty detailed description purporting to be the breakdown of the next trailer for J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens is doing the rounds, and it certainly reads like it might be the real deal.

Several sources (including Latino Review’s El Mayimbe and Star Wars 7 News) have received emails containing the same description, and it sounds quite similar to (but not exactly the same as) a breakdown was sent a short while ago but dismissed because of how poorly written it was. This is much more coherent, and although some of the VO dialogue seems a little odd, it could well make more sense when heard over the actual trailer. Everything else sounds pretty cool, but Of course, there is a chance it’s a complete fabrication.

Like the first teaser it opens with a shot of the desert planet. Although it’s not dunes. It’s a destroyed AT-AT on its side. Voice over (sounds like Lupita Nyong’o): “I shall show you the story…” Forest location with a very large structure (like a castle or something) with an opening in the base of a large tree. I believe this is the Puzzlewood location. VO continues “of who you seek…” A large city in a tropical location. Looks like it’s on the water. VO continues “the one who taught me…” Cloaked figure (maybe Luke?) standing at the top of stone steps on a high green hill with mountain stones behind him. This is definitely Skellig Michael.

VO continues “I know why the weapon came to you.” John Boyega (Finn), Daisy Ridley (Rey), and a small blue alien with a CG face in a dark (underground?) cave. Finn takes a lightsaber, and turns it on revealing a green blade. Rey is in the background and looks disturbed. Things pick up from here. Lots of quick shots. Han Solo wearing a brown duster and looking past the camera. A black TIE Fighter attacking the forest location we saw earlier. Kylo Ren in a POV shot approaching someone on the ground. His mask is dark with silver accents. The cross-guard saber is ignited. People running in the city seen earlier in the trailer. R2-D2 making a forlorn beep. C-3PO and Princess Leia in what looks like a base command center. New Voice Over (sounds like Andy Serkis from the first trailer) “Don’t get too sentimental”. As that VO is playing we see Han looking at Leia and then walking away from her towards the Falcon with Chewie.

The snowy forest from the first trailer. Slow shot of Finn holding the saber, looks like he’s protecting Rey from someone as we hear Han say “You can do this kid, I believe in you.” Final shot of the trailer is a close-up of a hooded head looking up to reveal Luke.

Making Star Wars also have description of the IMAX sequence introducing the character of Rey (Daisy Ridley), which you can read down below. All rumors for now, but hopefully Disney or Lucasfilms confirms theses rumours!

Chris Pratt Has "Nothing" To Say About INDIANA JONES

“It’s all nothing ’till it’s something, and so far it’s not something,” Chris Pratt said when asked to address the rumours that he will play Indiana Jones in Disney’s planned reboot of the Lucasfilm property. As for whether he feels the pressure of potentially taking over the role made famous by Harrison Ford, the Guardians of the Galaxy star added: “No, I don’t think it’s overwhelming to contemplate. It’d be cool. No one’s called me, you know, there’s a lot of talk about it. The pressure would come just because it’s a great franchise, you wouldn’t wanna get it wrong. So, for me, it would have to be perfect to do it. We’ll see.”

"Star Wars The Force Awakens" Trailer To Be In Front Of "Avengers: Age Of Ultron"

Now that the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens has been revealed and dissected over and over again (we’ve even got our own theory about the lightsabers that is nerdy as hell), fans are already looking forward to when we might see the next trailer.
Well, SlashFilm has confirmed that there will be a trailer attached to The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which isn’t really a big surprise at all. It’s a Disney movie, it will likely be the biggest movie of 2015 leading up to the release of Episode VII, and the audience there will be prime for Star Wars hype. But is there a chance we get another trailer between now and then?
SlashFilm hypothesizes that we just might see some more footage before then. First of all, there’s another Disney film hitting theaters this month with the musical Into the Woods, but if there’s a Star Wars trailer attached to that film, it will likely be the same teaser we’ve already seen.
So that would be a perfect time to show off some more goodies. In addition, the spring will bring the Disney fairytale Cinderella to theaters, and while that doesn’t seem like the ideal audience to debut a new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, perhaps Disney will cut a trailer that focuses on Daisy Ridley’s character. She’s one of the new heroes, and having a trailer before Cinderella would be a ripe opportunity to get a new audience of young girls interested in a property that has a larger male audience.
Either way, at least we know a new trailer will arrive with The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
