Charlie Cox Talks DAREDEVIL’S Future, Season 2, Movies, And More!

According to series star Charlie Cox, he’s contractually obligated to head over to the Marvel movieverse if they decide they want him there.

“It’d be great,” Cox told Close-Up Film when asked about the possibility of crossing over with other shows and films. “I’ve read Civil War now, I’ve read The New Avengers, I know he’s in there but I think I missed the boat on Civil War because they’re filming that. I don’t know, Marvel have not mentioned that to me at all. It’s in my contract that if they want me to do it, I’m there, and I would love that. That would be an extension of the dream, but I’m a pretty happy customer at this point, to get to do the series again. And I get to do The Defenders at some point.”

Recently Collider landed an exclusive video interview with Charlie Cox (Daredevil). He talked about the experience of getting cast, making the show with limited pre-production time, if Daredevil could appear in the Marvel films and the exciting possibility of teaming up with Spider-Man, if he noticed the Marvel Easter eggs as they were filming, if there any Daredevil storylines he wants to do in season 2 (which just got ordered), and a lot more.

Here’s what he had to say followed by the time index of the conversation.

Empire Online recently caught up with Charlie Cox and asked the British actor if he knows anything about what’s to come in the recently announced second season of Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil. As you might imagine, he wasn’t willing to give away too much, but did have this to say about what – and more importantly who – he hopes to see. “Based on the show we’ve created, which is very grounded in reality, I’d like to see Punisher maybe show up, a little bit of Elektra maybe. I wouldn’t mind Black Widow making an appearance, and you can’t think about Daredevil for too long without thinking of Bullseye. I don’t know when or if or how that would happen, but it’d be cool if it did.” That’s a lot of great characters, and all but Black Widow are probably very real possibilities. After all, Scarlett Johansson’s contract doesn’t extend to the small screen, and the budget conscious Marvel might not be keen on paying her for a cameo in the Netflix series!

Regardless, Cox then went on to reveal when the second season of Daredevil will start shooting and how he believes the return of the show will impact plans for the other solo series’ and The Defenders. “We’ll begin shooting in the second half of the year. It’ll be the same timeline as the last show, so season two will come out about this time next year. Again, I’m imagining all this, but there’ll probably do Iron Fist or Luke Cage at the same time, followed by the other one [of the two] in the first half of 2016 and then maybe Defenders in the second half of 2016 or the beginning of 2017.” Rumour has it that Daredevil and his fellow street level heroes will appear in Avengers: Infinity War, so the next few years are looking very busy indeed for Charlie Cox.

We’ve already heard from Charlie Cox on all things Daredevil, but in this latest interview with HeyUGuys the former Boardwalk Empire actor explains how he found out the acclaimed show had been renewed for a second season. He’s also asked one again about the rumored plans to have the character join the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the Avengers: Infinity War movies, and still claims to know nothing about it… but, he does reveal that he’s contacted to appear should the studio decide to use him.

The original plans for Marvel’s TV shows on Netflix was that they would each receive a single season before being teamed up for The Defenders. However, the overwhelmingly positive response to Daredevil resulted in The Man Without Fear getting a second season next year, and fans are already making it clear that they want to see his take on Matt Murdock on the big screen. Will it happen in Captain America: Civil War? “Well he’s in the comics, but I think they’re already… I think I might have missed that boat…” Cox admits. “So unless someone watches the show and falls so madly in love with it that they decide to get me in for a day, that would be great, but I have no idea.” Of course, it was actually Iron Fist in the Civil War comic book, but that was explained in the character’s solo title as a retcon of sorts because Matt was supposed to be in jail at the time the event took place. As of right now, the chances of a cameo do seem slim.
Not to worry though as rumour has it that Daredevil and his fellow Defenders will all appear in Avengers: Infinity War! Cox meanwhile also told IGN that he’s very keen on giving the character his own solo outing somewhere down the line. “Yeah that would be awesome – I’d love to do that. I love doing the TV show and I love that we have so much more time to explore the origin story and real deal with character and inner conflict, and spend a lot of time brooding in that world and those feelings, which is unusual for a superhero. And usually when you’ve got a two-hour movie it’s action-packed, and so I think that’s one of the things that the show has really benefitted from – having that extra time to really get to know and sit with these characters and see them as humans. But I’d love to see Daredevil on the big screen again. It would be great. And if I could be involved with that I’d be thrilled.”
With the first season of “Marvel’s Daredevil” proving a smash success with both audiences and critics, Netflix and Marvel will continue to create further adventures of the Man Without Fear! Doug Petrie (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “American Horror Story”) and Marco Ramirez (“Sons of Anarchy”), who worked closely with Executive Producers Steven S. DeKnight and Drew Goddard during the first season, will serve as showrunners for Season 2. Petrie, Ramirez, Goddard (“Cabin in the Woods”), and Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”) will serve as Executive Producers of Season 2.

“While previous commitments unfortunately prevent me from continuing on with Daredevil into its second season,” DeKnight explains, “I could not be happier that Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez are carrying the torch. They were invaluable collaborators during our first season, and I for one can’t wait to see what they do with the show moving forward.”
